FHLM MAY 2026 NEWSLETTER

GREETINGS:

Greetings everyone and Praise God! We are all doing well here in Masaka! We’ve been happily active with FHLM Holiday Programs all month! Colossians 3:23-24  And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.

DIRECTOR’S UPDATE:

PUBLIC HOLIDAY: 1st May we celebrated Labour Day. This year’s theme was Safeguarding Uganda’s Progress. The celebrations were held at Bishop Nkoyoyo Primary School in Matale (Western Uganda). The event featured a strong emphasis on protecting in formal workers and boosting labour standards across the country.

CENTRE HAPPENINGS: We were gracious to our Centre neighbor and gave him clearance to cut a tree in the compound that was damaging his perimeter wall. So, a week before our outreach trip guys came to cut the tree. They incorrectly cut the tree and before we knew it the tree had landed on our new tent causing major damage! That said it took the rest of the month to get the neighbor to repair the tent, but we are thankful he repaired. As the word says, you shall love your neighbor as yourself. So we wish him well.

That same week Spot, our Centre dog, developed a hematoma on her ear, so on 4th May the vet drained it and put in stiches. It took a week to heal, but we are thankful that she is now fine.

PRAISE & PRAYER REQUESTS:

PRIASE: We praise God for His journey mercies and provision for our annual youth outreach & education trip to Masindi. I will send out a “special edition newsletter” recounting our adventures.

COMFORT: We are still praying for a school sponsor for Comfort. She has just started Secondary 1, so her sponsorship per month is about $40.00 U.S. If anyone has prayerfully considered sponsoring her please contact me at reetsindiego@yahoo.com Thank you and bless you!

EBLOA: You must have heard that there is a serious Ebola Outbreak in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) which has spilled over into Uganda, with several cases having been identified in Kampala. The Uganda health ministry has stepped in very quickly with social distancing advice, contact tracing, travel restrictions between DRC and Uganda, and a 30 day ban on mass gatherings. This has affected major gatherings for Martyr’s Day on 3rd June. Uganda has also closed its boarders with DRC. Current stats: 9 confirmed cases, 1 death, 1 recovery, 7 active cases. Please pray that this outbreak is contained quickly

SOAR YOUTH UPDATES:

BIRTHDAYS: On our trip we had a dual birthday celebration for Charity and Pius! Her birthday was on 20th May and his on 25th May. We brought a special cake with us from Masaka and had an evening surprise party for them both!! It was a lovely time!

DAISY: Masaka Full Gospel Church, where Daisy and I both attend, offered a Baptism Class for 2 Sundays, which she attended. Then on 17th May she was baptized by full submersion. We praise God for her desire to acknowledge her faith publicly. We pray that God continues to transform her!

NEW TERM: I took Charity, Ruth and Pamela back to boarding school and start of 2nd Term at Timothy Girls’ High School on 23rd May. Then on 29th May Pius, Mark, Ronald, Comfort, and Carol started to school for 2nd Term at Masaka Secondary School.

UNIVERSITY: Eddy completed his semester exams on 11th May and then traveled to Masaka to join us for the trip. It was great that he was able to join us for the trip, as he has missed the last several due to school. Then he traveled back to Ishaka on the 24th, but the university pharmacy camp that was to happen in surrounding villages was put on hold due to the Ebola restrictions.

Both Justine and Immy started their end of semester exams on 18th May, so they were unable to join us on the trip. They completed on 30th May. Immy headed to the village to see her Mom for a bit and after she will be coming to Masaka. Justine had her final exam and her final semester on 31st May, completing her 3 year Bachelor of Statistics degree. However she still has to work on her final report so she will be staying in Kampala to do research and complete that. She is looking for an off campus room to rent with a friend. Please pray that she can get something close to campus that is reasonably priced so she can finish her research.

ANNUAL YOUTH OUTREACH & ED TRIP:

Be on the lookout for our ´Special Edition Newsletter´ about our trip!!

YOUTH HOLIDAY PROGRAMS:

CENTRE CLEANING: After Gardens of Faithfulness, and a week of rain, muddy boots, and many people in and out of the Centre it was in need of a thorough cleaning. The youth and staff all pitched in and mopped, washed windows, and wiped walls. Afterwards the Centre was fresh and clean!

BIBLE STUDIES: This holiday we decided to have special studies. On 5th May we has a study called What Is Faith? We started off with that question, and read from Hebrews 11:1. After discussing, we went into our second section, Trust Over Sight and read from 2 Corinthians 5:7. We shared about having faith in God’s promises and that is where our trust comes from. Then we looked at the Source of Our Faith Romans 10:17 and asked, what sort of faith do you have in God? We finished up with the story of Shadrach, Meshach & Abednego’s faith and trust in God and read from Daniel 3:1-30. Here are some of the youth’s comments about the study:

  • Charity said hoping in something we cannot see is difficult, but we need to be patient and believe God will work out things. We can’t get blessings when we are not patient. So, we must put our faith into action by being patient.
  • Ronald commented that we must trust in God fully because He is there to hold and save us.
  • Pamela commented that eyes always lie and show that things are impossible. They hinder our faith in God therefore, we should live by faith not by sight.
  • Ruth commented that the origin of our trust also matters a lot. Believing in small gods, money and people is very dangerous. So, we must believe and trust in God who never disappoints. He is the right source.
  • Charity said that Meshach, Shadrach and Abednego had the strongest faith in God. They showed their faith and trust by refusing to bow and trust in the golden image even when the punishment was a fiery furnace.
  • Carol that they also accepted the risk saying God could save them. This was complete trust in the Lord.
  • Comfort added that worshiping idols is wrong even under pressure.

POST OFFICE TOUR: In the afternoon of 06th May we went to the Masaka Post Office for a tour. The post master did a great job of explaining how the post office works. That a post office is a place where you send and receive your mails or packages. The packages are delivered and transported by the post office bus. They have domestic mail, the ones within the country, and international mail, outside the country. Then he went into detail about the postal service offered; post boxes, stamps, packages, and courier services. The youth had many questions and they said they learned a lot!!

BIBLE QUIZ: On 8th May 2026 we enjoyed fun, friendly competition! Group 1 members; Pius, Charity, Mark and Comfort.  Group 2 members; Ronnie, Pamela, Carol, and Stuart. Babirye worked as the time keeper and Juliet secretary. I led the program of the Bible quiz as well as opening the Bible competition. Group One scored 108 points and group Two 119 points. Of course the winners received sweeties, but they all tried their level best!

The Bible Quiz Day is a great way to challenge the youth to read and study their Bibles on the daily basis, not only so they can help their team win, but it helps them to gain spiritual maturity. As it is written in Joshua 1:8, may the book of the law not depart from your mouth, meditate on it day and night.

VOLLEYBALL: In the evening of the 8th all the staff members and youth had another volley ball practice to prepare for our volley a Tournament with Willow which is due to take place on 22nd May 2026. Auntie Grace had some time with us and did a great to job to help us with our practices by showing us exactly what we are supposed to do. We thank God that everything went on well and we are now able to master each and everything we are supposed to do.  So, our team is more than ready for that day.

Then on 22nd May we ventured to Willow Resource Foundation for our “friendly tournament” with the Willow’s Team.  Team FHLM did pretty well against them; 1st game 25 to 17, 2nd game 25 to 13 both in favor of Willow. Then we had a combined team game. The day was mostly about fun, learning, teamwork, and exercise. We thank Team Willow for hosting us and look forward to the next tournament.

MOVIE DAY: We finished the month off on the 30th with a movie day. We watched I Can Only Imagine. The film is the true backstory behind the best-selling Christian single of all time by the band MercyMe. It primarily focuses on the moving, real-life journey of lead singer Bart Millard escaping an abusive childhood and reconciling and forgiveness with his father. Here are some of the youth’s comments and our discussions about the movie:

  • Mark said we are not to allow people to stop us from following our dreams just because theirs didn’t come true.
  • Ronald said that we should ask God to help us not to rather take our own way from forgiveness. He said forgiveness is the key to unlock all God has for us.
  • Shakirah said that we should forgive no matter what circumstance. If we don’t do it, we will he haunted forever.
  • Juliet said that we face many challenges in life, we need to forgive so that we can bring peace in life.
  • Carol said that through all the torture we get through in life with our parents, we need to forgive.
  • Pius shared about respecting parents. We should respect our parents because they have authority over us. That’s why we need to forgive and give distance when things get hard.
  • Ronald supplemented saying that we need to ask God’s mercy to forgive. Let Him intervene. Then if you are distant for a while, it releases your heart and helps you to forgive.

BELA BULUNGI (GOOD-BYE):

The month of May has been full on, but by God’s grace we completed the month! We are so grateful for the donations that allow us to continue serving the Lord here in Masaka! And we are thankful for your continued prayers!

Love and Blessings,
