More SOAR Youthz Success Stories

Alpha Mukisa (Arafat Mugerwa) is a story of FAITH! He was born to devote Muslim family and is the oldest child of 8. He has been living on his own since Primary 7 (2008). During that time he lived on the street and dropped out of secondary school. He then went to Kampala and had many odd jobs. While in Kampala he became a born-again Christian on Christmas Eve 2013. When that happened he found it was time to return to Masaka and try and reconnect with family. He came to FHLM in 2014 and in 2016 he completed Secondary 4 (high school sophomore).

During his Secondary 4 Vac we introduced Alpha to Scripture Union and ever since he has jumped into their programs! He is an active member of SU BF2 and has went on several outreach missions around Uganda. He has joined many SU Camps as a facilitator and has attended many SU Trainings, all growing his FAITH walk and passion for teaching young people & children. In April 2018 he completed a work/study program in video, sound, and photography editing. In August of 2018 he accepted a position at Soweto Youth Fellowship as their Program Director. This job allows him to fulfill his love of sharing the Gospel, teaching and counseling youth and children. He is also the Children’s Ministry Leader at Hilltop Church. He loves reading the Bible, praising the Lord, and intercessory prayer! He has a passion for music; loves singing, writing songs and poems. His FAITH has taken him far and transformed his life!

William Mayiga’s story is of HOPE! William’s mother and father died of AIDS when he was 8 years old. He was raised by his Grandparents who are peasant farmers deep in the village. He has lived on his own and fended for himself since he was 14 years old when he came to Masaka town and worked as a second-hand clothes seller and digging on his grandpa’s land. But William always HOPED for more. He was in the FHLM Residential Program from January 2015 till Feb 2019 when he started working for Uganda UMEME.

He received his Certificate in Electrical Installation in Nov 2016 and completed the UBITEB Exam for an Advanced Certificate in Nov 2018. During his long holiday he worked briefly for UMEME and some other electrical contractors. He hopes to start a business or start working straight away. He is thankful to God for the HOPE received and all that He has blessed him with!

Namutebi Zaitun Babirye (Babz) is a story of LOVE: Was with FHLM from January of the 2014. In December she completed her 3rd year of studies at Ndejje University receiving a Degree in Computers in Secondary Education with a minor in Divinity.

She was a very active in the universities’ Christian Union and at the beginning of the 2021 Semester she was given a leadership role on the CU Board as Treasurer. Though COVID19 prevented her from doing her first internship she was able to get some firsthand experience by teaching the SOAR Youth computer skills.  She also kept active with her computer skills by taking additional classes in Masaka Town. Though her last two semesters were difficult with E-Learning and Zoom lectures, she graduated from Ndejje University on 17th December, 2021. We celebrate her achievements and congratulate her on this milestone in life!
