FHLM MARCH 2026 NEWSLETTER

GREETINGS:

Greetings from Masaka! I hope your Spring is in full bloom! We haven’t had a dry season this year and it has been raining almost every day, so Masaka is very green and soggy! Ask the Lord for rain in the springtime; it is the Lord who sends the thunderstorms. He gives showers of rain to all people, and plants of the field to everyone. Zechariah 10:1. Here is what we were up to in the month of March. Enjoy reading!

DIRECTOR’S UPDATE:

SHAKIRAH: In the early morning hours of 8th March Aunt Shakirah gave birth to a precious baby boy, Muwangunzi Jeyvin Katumba! Muwangunzi means Victory, and Jeyvin means God’s Gift. We are so thankful to God for answering our prayers, as her delivery was quick like the Hebrew women, and they were both healthy.  Babirye and I visited her and baby, Jeyvin, on the 19th. She and baby are doing great! It was so nice to see her and catch up.

NEW SOAR YOUTH: Each year around February and early March after the Primary 7 exams results come out, FHLM receives applications for school sponsorship. This year we’ve had 6 applications. Of course this leads to a time of extensive interviews, home visits, and seeking God on which new applicant is the “right fit” for the ministry. Though we would love to take all the applicants, we must narrow our search based on our criteria, and then rely on God to make the final answer.

Comfort– That said after much prayer and consideration we have accepted Comfort Kayllin Kemigisha into the SOAR Youth Sponsorship Program. Comfort is 14 years old and finished primary 7 with favorable marks. She gave her life to Jesus in Sept of 2024 and she attends Victory Family Church with her mom in the village of Bisanje. Her mother, Jessica, is alive but living with HIV and extremely sick. Her father abandon the family when Comfort was 8 years and her mother had just given birth to her brother Kalvin. After giving birth to Kalvin, Jessica found out she was HIV positive, so her treatment was much delayed. Her Mom relies on her sisters, the church, and digging the garden at the home where she is the caretaker to get food and money.

Since Bisanje is a ways outside of Masaka City, Comfort will stay with her maternal auntie and her family, who live in Kimaanya B, while she is going to school. Comfort likes to sing and is in the church choir, so she will connect with the choir at her aunties’ church.  Comfort will join secondary 1 at Masaka SS in term 2.

Carol—Also God kept pressing on my heart to accept Carol Passy Namuyanja into the sponsorship program. Though she was our 2nd choice and Comfort’s needs were slightly more, God kept saying help her too! She is also 14 years old and just completed Primary 7 with favorable marks. She comes from a church background and has known Jesus since she was 4 years old. She is living with her mom and 3 siblings in Kasijjagirwa, Masaka City. Her mother, Agnes, digs other people’s gardens to earn a living.

Carol likes to sing, and she is in the church choir. She also teaches children’s Sunday school and says it is a joy to share the Bible with the little kids. Carol will also join secondary 1 at Masaka SS in term 2.

We are praying for God to avail a sponsor for their school fees. If God has prompted you to sponsor either of these young ladies please contact me at reetsindiego@yahoo.com. Thank you and God bless.

PUBLIC HOLIDAYS:  We celebrated International Women’s Day was on 8th March. The day’s powerful theme was “Give to Gain”. This theme teaches us that when we give opportunities, respect, support, and encouragement to one another both men and women benefit. And that when women are empowered, families grow stronger, communities thrive and societies prosper. So we should commit to giving support, opportunities, and hope to one another so everyone can succeed.

Eid al-Fitr was on 20th March. This marked the end of the Muslim Ramadan fasting season.

RETREAT: From 27th to 29th March I was blessed to once again attend the Journey Together Women’s Retreat at Vision For Africa’s prayer mountain near Jinja Uganda (east of Kampala), with my dear friend Sarah. This year’s theme was Keep Shining, taken from Isaiah 60:1-3. The weekend was full of wonderful fellowship with the 42 missionary women form 8 different countries. We also had very enlightening teaching from my friend, Rebecca Nolley, who wrote a book called Shine. I was very blessed to be able to attend and be with such amazing, like minded women of God!

SOAR YOUTH UPDATES:

DAISY: We praise God and are so thankful to tell you that Daisy has received a sponsor for the completion of her Primary 7 studies. We are so grateful!

RONNIE: He has been elected as the Project & Program Manager for the Agriculture Club at school. We are happy to see him in another leadership role.

WILLIAM: He received his secondary 6 National Exams results back on 13th March. Unfortunately he did not perform well on his exams with only 2- subsidiary passes in Biology and Chemistry. Because he did not receive a principle pass in any subject it means that he only qualifies for a certificate course. Basically he has to go back to his Ordinary Level national exam results.

But all is not lost, we spoke to Eddy and the Kampala International University Western Campus offers a Higher Education Certificate (HEC) as a 1-year (two-semester) bridging program for students with insufficient principal passes, enabling entry into bachelor’s degrees. So, William and I will visit the campus next month to see if he can be admitted to this program.

VISITATION DAYS: On 21st March both Masaka Secondary and Timothy Girls HS had their visiting days.  That said we had to split the staff up. Juliet went to Masaka SS to meet with the class teachers of Ronnie, Mark, and Pius. Babirye and I went to Timothy Girls for their vistiing day. It was a blessing to see Ruth, Charity and Pamela, and catch up with them. We also met with Ruth and Charity’s class teachers and received their beginning of term 1 exam results.

PROM: Though Timothy Girls HS is a single school Ruth and Charity had their Prom Weekend from 27th to 28th March. They kicked off the weekend on Friday with a campfire. Then Saturday morning they had a special breakfast followed by a morning service led by Pastor Julius Kintu. After lunch the young ladies changed into their Prom Clothes and had a dance and a special dinner. The girls said it was a fun weekend!

YOUTH PROGRAMS:

SEMINAR: On 7th March the staff and a few of the youth attended a seminar at Willow Resource Foundation given by Dr. Roy Brown from Israel. Dr. Roy is a brilliant teacher of theology, and the day’s seminar topic was “How We Got the Bible”.   Here are some of the topics that he covered and expounded upon:

  1. Misconceptions some people have about the Bible.
  2. Inspiration in the Bible- as 1 Timothy 3:16 says, all scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching and rebuking.
  3. Types of Revelation—General and Special.
  4. The Bible: Canon
    1. Collection of Books- Old & New Testament
    1. What determines the Canon?
    1. What is illumination?
    1. Transmission of the New Testament (Hebrew Bible, Manuscripts)
  5. Different Bible Translations & Interpretation & Illumination
  6. Resolving Apparent Contradictions

MOVIE DAY: On March 14th we watched an oldie but a goodie, Faith Like Potatoes. It is based on the inspiring true story of Angus Buchan, a Zambian farmer of Scottish heritage who leaves his farm in the midst of political unrest and travels south with his family to start a better life in South Africa. After moving Angus grapples with faith, hope, natural disasters and tragic personal loss. But in then realizes that God is the answer and he gives his life to Jesus! Ecclesiastes 11:4 He who observes the wind will not sow, And he who regards the clouds will not reap.

Below are the following views from the Youth and Staff about the movie.

  • Shakib: we should always believe in God, even though we do not see him, He will bring us to harvest because He is faithful.
  • Ronald: We should have a strong faith in God for the successful life.
  • Supplement Aunt Rita:  At first Angus was using his own strength until when God changed him.
  • William: When we trust God always uses us as His own vessels more especially in our communities. E.g. “The lightening attack” he just spoke the word of God and the lady come back to life.
  • Aunt Rita supplement: Faith in doing things, he planted the potatoes because he was trusting God, not listening to other people to let him down.
  • Shakib: Patience; e.g. when God places you somewhere do not just move away because he can expand your territories because He is the one who placed you in such place.
  • Pius: It is good to ask for God’s will and guidance because He has the best for us. Let us always put our trust in Him even in hard times.
  • Aunt Rita supplement: Angus had faith and believed God in healing the land 2 Chronicles 7:14 If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
  • Juliet: Prayer is the key, and Angus had the fear of God. So, in the midst of problems or challenges, he separated himself and prayed to God. He trusted God and God used him.
  • Mark: God is our provider and answers prayer when we pray, so we always have to have faith in Him.
  • Carol: Trust God in whatever we do, always put Him first for his guidance and wisdom.
  • Ronald: Angus knew that whatever he did was God’s glory, so he told people not to praise him but praise God.

BIBLE STUDIES: Throughout March we studied the chapters of Exodus 34 to 38. The Bible study we had on 17TH March in the book of Exodus 36 was a powerful chapter about generosity, stewardship and obedience in action.

  • Verse 1-7, Aunt Rita shared that when we have a special skill, it’s a gift from God. Every person has a gift and we should use them for God’s purpose.
  • Verse 3-5, people were generous in giving. We believers should also give generously to others. Over flowing blessings shows the abundance of God. (Ephesians 3:20). He is the owner of all things and gives everything in abundance.
  • Aunt Juliet also commented that, God can provide but He requires faithful workers to fulfill his assignment.
  • Ronald also commented about Fulfilment. The lord we serve is always there to fulfil the work he wants us to do. When God sends us to do something, He is always there to guide and provide. Verse 4.
  • William commented on (verse 1) that, the people were blessed with wisdom and understanding. He always ensures that people accomplish what He called them to do.
  • Verse 3-5 Babirye commented about overflowing blessing that, God loves a cheerful giver (2Corinthians 9:7). It wasn’t about wealth; it was about heart transformation.  When God truly changes someone, giving becomes natural, obedience becomes joyful and sacrifice becomes easy.
  • Carol added that, when God commands you to do something, don’t ask questions instead start doing it and He will guide you on everything. Don’t consider what people think. Verse 3.
  • Aunt Rita continued that, it took a community to help build the tabernacle so, we must remember that, when we want change, it takes a community. The covering of the roof was for protection and that’s how God dwells in us just as the tabernacle was His dwelling place. Jesus is our dwelling place. verse 8-13.
  • Verse 20-30, God uses the most expensive things to build his house and He wants us to be quality and perfect too since we are His dwelling place. Aunt Rita.
  • Aunt Juliet commented on verse 8-13 that, Our God is a master planer and a God of order as we see before He does anything, he prepares first. so, we must have a plan for everything we do.
  • Ronnie added on what Juliet said that, God always have a sketch map of everything He does just as we see the creation of man in Genesis. He always plans something perfect.
  • Aunt Rita added that, when Jesus died, the veil that used to separate people from God in the Old Testament was torn. So, there is no more separation between man and God. verse 35.
  • Babirye also commented about order and unity in God’s work. (1Corinthians 14:33) God is not a God of disorder. So, the church today should be like the tabernacle structure. The body grows when every part works together and everyone has a role to play in church and unity holds everything together. verse 20-34.

VOLLEYBALL: On 28th March the youth and staff did some cleaning of the Centre compound in preparation for our Good Friday Event. After lunches they put our new volleyball court to good use! They had volleyball practice, led by Pius and Ronald, as they were the team leaders and trainers. Much fun was had by all!

BELA BULUNGI (GOOD-BYE):
