FHLM FEB 2022 NEWSLETTER
GREETINGS:
Greetings from Masaka! I hope this update finds you all healthy, happy and blessed! This has been a great month, but we have had unusual February weather. February has cool, cloudy and rainy not hot and dry as usual. That said the crops have not had a chance to dry and most people have not been able to harvest properly. Please pray for this community, as most are subsistence farmers. Psalm 107:36-37 There He makes the hungry dwell, that they may establish a city for a dwelling place, and sow fields and plant vineyards, that they may yield a fruitful harvest. (NKJV)
DIRECTORS UPDATE:
Puppy House: At the beginning of the month Uncle William built a puppy house for Spot. She now has a very spacious and comfortable “condo” to stay in. She is also growing. Her legs are getting longer then her body and sometimes she trips over herself when she runs. She’s also found her voice, her bark, and it’s too cute.
AGM FOR 2021: We had a wonderful AGM! Not only did it include the reading of our 2021 Annual Reports by the Director & the Assistant Director, but we also had fun items too. Justine was given a 5 Years of Excellence Service Award for her board representation of the SOAR Youth. We also had a birthday celebration for Pastor Sam, our assistant director. Moreover we discussed serious topics like the acceptance of Pamela Ogirimpuwe into the FHLM SOAR Youth Sponsorship Program and our strategic plan items for the next year. All of our board members are remaining in their posts and I am blessed to have them continue.
Hilltop Church: I don’t speak much about my church here in Masaka that I’m an elder and minister at, but on the 13th we had a Special Worship Gathering. We invited various churches, ministries, and technical schools to not only come to experience the day, but to join in ministering to the attendees. I was blessed to be chosen to give the day’s message; God’s Love & Our Love. I based my message on 1 John 4:7-16. We had a Spirit filled day of worship, learning and fellowship. I’m blessed to be a part of this church and to watch it grow and influence the community with God’s word and love.
Welcome to FHLM: We are excited to announce that on 14th Feb Charles Ojiambo started with FHLM as our 1st ever Office Manager. We are so happy to welcome him into the FHLM Family! He is married with two little girls and has a background in business administration, accounting, and sales. We praise God as he will be an asset to the ministry as we grow into what God desires for us in the months and years to come.
We also welcomed Pamela Ogirimpuwe into the FHLM SOAR Youth Sponsorship Program. She is 15 years old and living with her mother and her two brothers. She started Secondary 1 at Masaka SS on 22 Feb. She was very excited to be back in school and extremely grateful for the support. Her mother, Happy, phoned me in tears and saying, “Weebale, Weebale”, (thank you, thank you) the evening that Pamela started school. What a blessing that we can be a vessel used by God to give hope and a future to young people. Praise God!
Sad News: On 10th Feb Babirye’s brother Sadat passed away. He was only 36 years. He had been sick for some years with mental illness and in the last few months with other issues. Please stand in prayer for Babirye and her mother Jane as they deal with this heartbreak. Thank you. That said Babirye’s graduation party that was scheduled for 20th Feb had to be postponed.
SOAR YOUTH UPDATE:
Two Months Down: As you read in last month’s newsletter the youth are all back in school. We praise God that the youth have been able to continue their studies, with no more COVID interruptions, and have completed 2 months of their 4 month 1st term.
The school is really pushing them through the curriculum modified that is covering 2 years. Since Immy is a candidate for Secondary 4 and Justine for Secondary 6 the school is even having them attend school lessons on Sunday afternoons. Immy has also been blessed to have been made the class monitor for her stream.
Eddy said that Secondary 5, Advance Level, is very different from Ordinary Level, and difficult. But he says that he is pushing on and determined to do well. The other youth, in Secondary 3 and 2 (William, Milly, Hanisha & Pius), are faring well.
Bible Study: This month we continued in our study in 1 Thessalonians ending the chapter on the 23rd. This letter’s main message from Paul to the church in Thessalonica continues to resound with present day Christians; we believe we will raise as Jesus did, so we need to remain faithful and strive to progress everyday toward greater holiness.
Here are some highlights of this month’s study and what we learned:
1 Thessalonians 3:1-13
- William: We are speak to others and strengthen each other as Timothy did. (Verse 2)
- Eddy: So people won’t be moved by trials we are to stand firm and draw near to God because the devil will always come and trials will come. Don’t let those trials get you down. Keep your eyes on God! (Verse 2)
- Milly: when people are praying for me I’m encouraged and it helps us be firm and renewed. So pray for others. It is good!
1 Thessalonians 4:1-18
- Milly: We are to walk to please God and stop the immoral ways of the world because the Holy Spirit does not want to be in dirty vessels. (Verse 1)
- William: We are to show love to one another not by back biting or talking funny things but by being caring and humble to one another. (Verse 9)
1 Thessalonians 5: 1-28
- Pamela: We need to always be prepared for Christ’s return. Since we are children of the light we are to help those that don’t know Jesus, those in darkness, come to the light. (Verses 8-11)
- Pius: All Christians should live in or with a desire to help each other. Also being joyful and in prayer because if we do that the Holy Spirit can move and set us free. (Verses 15-18)
Recycle Project: On the 5th we had a Recycle Building Project. What that means is that the youth nailed together and assembled 3 precut wooden containers. One for recycling bottles, one for paper, and one for rubbish. They then painted them different colors. Hanisha and Immy put there artistic talents to use and made stencils of a plastic bottle, recycle logo and a pitch in sign and painted it on the boxes. We are now able to have a “recycle centre” for us to put what we learned about recycling last year into practice.
Movie Day: After the arrival of the students, we organized and all members had lunch. After we entered the show room where we watched 23 BLAST. It was a nice movie and all members enjoyed. After the movie the youth shared what they had learnt and the following were their views.
- HANISHA-We should believe that God can do everything and a good example is Travis believed in God and he also had believe in himself.
- PIUS-We should not be jealous of other people because God loves every one.
- WILLIAM-In every situation, we should believe that God can make a way where others see no way.
- MILLY-We should choose friends that will remain with us forever. 2 Corinthians 5:7 we live by faith not by sight.
- IMMY-In every situation, bad or good, God has a plan for us to go through that situation. He can’t let you get into a problem that you can’t go through.
- EDDY-We should always fight for what we want, just keep moving and do not lose hope because there is always a second chance. Also we should not isolate people with disabilities.
- JUSTINE-We should always believe in God and give him our future, trust that He has ourfuture in His hands. We should also practice Christ like Love to everyone.
After the views, we entered into a worship moment which was led by WILLIAM and JUSTINE then prayers and finally HANISHA shared the grace and we called it a day. (Written by: Charles Ojiombo)
Worship Day: On the 26th we had an afternoon of Praise & Worship to our Lord! It was a day filled with Spirit filled voices lifted up to exalt the Almighty! Hanisha was our pastor of the day. She taught on “Our Love To One Another” (1 John 4:7-21) People cannot say I love God and hate his brother. She stated that if God loved us and He sent His Son (John 3:16) and He even loved us before the foundation of the world, we should love those in God’s family. We are all brothers and sisters in Christ and call to love each other.
Then she shared about loving your enemies (Matthew 5:43-44) and how we are to pray for God’s love and forgiveness. She said we are made of love so we can’t hate. Love is the greatest thing. We all need to love not backbite and to talk about issues openly. That we are to love people the way they are and how God sees people. Not to get angry but to serve one another in love (Galatians 5:13)
Not boosting around. Stop treating others badly and love your neighbors as yourself for God wants unity amongst us because God works where there is love and unity. We are also to pray for God’s grace and courage to forgive. For when we forgive God’s love will come back. (1 Corinthians 13:4-8)
We ended for a few more worship songs and prayers for unity, love, forgiveness and healing of broken hearts. What a beautiful day!
BELA BULUNGI (GOOD-BYE):
