FHLM September 2014 Update: Youth News, Missionary News
Greetings from Masaka! 1 Corinthians 1:3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Sorry it has taken a bit to get you our September Update—October has been very busy but you’ll find out about all that next month.
Youth News: On 08 Sept 3rd Term of Secondary School started for Rock and Babriye. This is the last term of the school year and a very important one for Rock as he starts his Secondary 4 Uganda National Exams (UNE) in October. Please keep both of them in prayer for great performances and especially for Rock. Thank you!
Youth of Destiny 3rd Term after-school program kicked off on 09 Sept and we have had a great turn out for the start for the 3rd term meetings. Many of the youth from last term have attended and there are a few new faces too. I have also been prompting the program in several of the schools surrounding the youth center. Praying we can impact even more lives!!
We watched The Cross and the Switchblade for our Monthly Movie with a Message Day on 13 Sept. We were blessed to have Jacqui Dowdy, a 21 year missionary to Uganda, share her testimony with the youth. She told about how she read the book that the movie was based on at 17 years old and how she came to know Jesus and how her life was radically changed. What an impact she made on the youth! After Jacqui spoke several youth asked for prayer. Since our prayer time two of those youth, Alpha, and William have been meeting with me weekly for private Bible Studies. I praise God for the impact these movies are making on the youth!!
Computer classes start up again! On 22 Sept Mr. Reggie started an Advanced Computer Training class for 3 youth from the Basic Training Class held in July. These youth are hungry to know more about computers and they are applying this knowledge in their daily lives and in their university/vocational classes. This course is scheduled to go on for the next month with them meeting every Monday and Wednesday afternoon.
A Quest for Manhood! That was the theme of our ALL Guy Day on 27 Sept. The day was full of young men, a movie and muchomo (pork on a stick)! It started out with praise & worship and then they all watched the movie Courageous. After the movie Pastor Frank has a question & answer time with the guys. They also talked about their challenges in life, family, and when is a man a man? As I am not a guy and was not in the session the feed-back I heard was as they were passing my office with comments like; “wow that was powerful and I learned lots!” So I can deduce from that it was a great day!
Missionary News: I praise God that Rogers and I were able to get a few days away together at the beginning of September. It was the first time that just the two of us were on holiday together. Yes, after 2 1/2 years of being married we finally got our honeymoon! I thank God for the lovely 3 days we had. I pray it happens more than once every 3 years!
The weekend of 12 Sept my friend and brother in Christ, J.T. King, came to visit. JT was here in Uganda in preparation for a business he is starting, an inexpensive in-home water filter that can be used by any person. He took a few days out of his research time to come see us in Masaka. JT wholeheartedly participated in all the youth programs we had going that weekend. Rogers and I were also able to connect him to a few people, including our business R&R Services, which can assist him with distributing and selling the filters once they become available. It was a lovely visit and so great to have a friend, brother, and neighbor from my home town around!
I was blessed and honored to preach the Word to about 60 students at Mutessa Royal University on 14 September. The theme for the day was—Representing Another World; An Embassy Lifestyle based on text from Philippians 3:20, Matthew 6:10 and Joshua 1:3. This teaching was inspired by a book I have been reading, When Heaven Invades Earth. Thank you Pastor Darren Hall for giving me this book and broadening my Kingdom view!
In our June Update I sent out a request for plane fare. I came back to Uganda on a one-way ticket so this has left me with no return ticket or money for a plane ticket. As you may have read or seen on the news recently there have been many terrorist attacks in Kenya and Nigeria and several threats at Uganda. Recently South Sudan has removed all the foreign aid workers in the country. With these events taking place I have thought again about money for a return ticket to the U.S. and I have to be prepared if there is a major crisis in Uganda I will need to leave the country, along with Rogers. Again, I am asking you to please pray about contributing towards a plane tickets back to the U.S. for both of us. If the Lord lays this on your heart to contribute the funds can be sent as a tax deductable donation to Shepherd’s Staff at Shepherd’s Staff, C/O Rita Bulegeya Memo #6050-Airfare, P.O. Box 53640, Albuquerque, NM 87153-3640.
Thank you for your continued love, support, prayers and encouragement. Just as Paul ended his letters, I send the same good-bye to you all. “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen”
Love and Blessings,
Rita
