FHLM November Update: Holiday Programs, New Office, Celebrations, Youth Updates

Greetings Family and Friend!! November has been a fun month and a month of preparation. Here is our Faith Hope Love Missions update:

Holiday Programs: Most of November has been in preparation for the 3rd Term Holiday Youth Programs. We are planning the following programs for the youth; the 1st Session of Equip Leadership Training, IMPACT Discipleship Class Session 2 on prayer and the Holy Spirit, and a Prayer Retreat at Camp Ndegeya on 10-12 Jan. I’m very excited to see how God works in ALL of these programs.

New, new office: We have been blessed with having an office, however for the last 2 months we have been without power, as the landlord hasn’t paid the electricity bill, and it looks as though power won’t re-turn anytime soon. We have been unable to conduct business, as usual, in the office or use our computers, so we are again looking for office/activity space. Please keep our new, new office hunting in your prayers; that God gives us wisdom and guides us to the right place.

Celebration Time: On 16 Nov the whole family, plus our close Masaka friends, all ventured to Kampala foDSC04547r Pastor Tom and Vicki’s Wedding! It was a lovely wedding ceremony at Watoto Church. I have never seen Watoto, a church with the capacity of 2,000, filled up so much for a wedding. It shows that Tom and Vicki are truly loved! The reception was a beautiful, afternoon garden event with many people showing their love and admiration for the couple. The celebrations didn’t end with Tom & Vicki’s wedding.

The next day was my birthday, so since we were all in Kampala we stayed an extra daDSC04649y to celebrate in style with a garden brunch, a walk about in Kampala and a visit to Garden City Mall. It was a first for Rock and David to be on a golf course and also visit Garden City. We topped off the day with a visit to a patisserie for a piece of cake and a few courses of Happy Birthday! It was a wonderful weekend and I felt very blessed!

Yes, I actually had an American Thanksgiving in Uganda! I was blessed to be invited to the Marcis’ home to celebrate with the doctor and his family ???????????????????????????????along with the Tillman family and my dear friend Fay, all Americans living and working for the Lord here in Masaka. We had an amazing dinner with turkey and ALL the trimmings and even pumpkin and apple pie for desert! But the best time was sitting around talking about family, the U.S., how God brought us to Uganda, and giving thanks to our Lord for ALL He has blessed us with this year. In the evening we had a Bible reading from Psalms and a time of praise and worship. What a wonderful day!

Youth Updates: On 29 Nov we had another awesome Movie with a Message day! The youth watched the movie Soul Surfer and the messages of “I can do all things through Christ” and “Never give up” shown through! It was a joyous day!

End of 3rd Term school exams were 11-25 November, so Rock was very busy and deep in revising for every exam. He was excited to finish his exams on 25 Nov and begin the long 2 month school Holiday. He actually ran around the house saying “I’m free, I’m free”, but not long after that his thoughts turned to the reality that he will be in Secondary 4 next year, which is a candidate class. Rock will be preparing for his S4 classes during school holiday by taking 4 refresher classes in Math, Chemistry, Physics, and Biology, as he wants to do his best on the S4 National Exams next year.

While Rock is focused on next year and Secondary 4, David finished his last Secondary Exams and completed Secondary 6 (High School). What’s next for David? Well David has BIG plans and dreams! He has saved money from selling photos he has taken and started a small chapatti business. (chapatti-small flat bread, like a tortilla) This business is a means to an end. With the funds he saves from this street vendor business he plans to purchase a large Cannon or Nikon camera with lens to further his dream of becoming a professional photographer. Going to university is also on his mind, as he would like to take a 2 year business course and a 1 year graphic art and photography course. As you can see David has put his plan in motion, but says that he is working for God, that He will prosper the work of his hands but almightily God is in control.

Rachel Update: Rogers and I visited Rachel at her home in Kitengessa a few weeks ago. She is doing ok, but we found that she was having trouble why she needs to take her ARV’s (Antiretroviral drug) for the AIDS she has contracted from the rape. After some counseling from Rogers and me she agreed to take her ARV’s every day. On that note, I followed up with her mom and she is now indeed taking her meds and receiving counseling from Uganda Cares, an AIDS agency. Also we need to get her a new wheel chair as her current one keeps breaking and we continue to keep fixing it. Please continue to keep her in your prayers.

Thank you ALL for your prayers, your love, your care, and your donations! May our Lord richly bless you for all you have done to further His Kingdom in Masaka! I pray you ALL have a wonderful Christmas and Happy 2014!

Love and Blessings,

Rita
