What Else Does Rita Do In Uganda?

As many of you know from the recent Faith Hope Love Missions (FHLM) Newsletter, I am the lead missionary and director for FHLM. Besides taking care of the 3 boys in the FHLM project, and running the organization, I also volunteer with Scripture Union of Uganda (SU).

Since last June I have been working in the Masaka District, as a SU Volunteer Trainer. Last year was a year of “resurrecting” the SU work in this district and this year I’ve been SO blessed with many amazing gifts. When I returned to Masaka in February this year SU was given free office space at Masaka Pentecostal Church. Having an office has given SU Masaka authenticity in the region of Masaka District. With the approval we are now able to reach out to the youth of the community easier and have an additional area for them to come for prayer and counseling and for me to work away from my house. I was also Blessed to have a SU Volunteer Team come alongside of me this year. Purity Muganzi and Rogers Bulegeya are the two main volunteer facilitators and then we have Uganda youth and university students as well, to create an amazing SU Masaka Team.

In the last 6 months much has been done in the schools for God’s Glory! In April, at the end of 1st Term of school, we were able to have a Jesus Film Project (JFP). Our SU Volunteer Team from Masaka was joined by a team from the SU Home office in Kampala. In a 6 day period we reached out to 16 schools in Masaka District. During that time over 650 youth and children came to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

The Masaka Team than had our work cut out for us for 2nd Term as we had follow up to do with all the schools we had visited during the JFP. At the beginning of the term we went to 6 schools and did teaching on how to have a Bible Study in the SU Club. We also taught about personal quiet time. This training was so wonderful, as so many of the students and patrons had no idea how to have personal devotional and quiet time. We also followed up with some of the other schools administration and SU Patron’s to see how the Clubs were moving forward with number of students and training needs. A few weeks ago we had a Patron/Chairperson Training on what SU is all about and basic leadership skills; my favorite part of the training with teaching about discipleship and the heart of a leader. For our 1st Training we had a decent turn out with 24 Patron and Chairperson attending.

The next big thing for SU Masaka is a Leadership Conference on 23 July for all the youth of the district. We have mobilized 22 secondary schools and organizations for the conference. Our theme this year is “Lead Where You Are”. We are expecting about 300 youth to come for the one day conference. I am so excited to see how God’s hand is going to move, shape and change the future leaders of this country!

In 3rd Term we are planning to have a 4 Day Mini-Residential Youth Camp at one of the District Secondary Schools, Kako SS. Having a Mini Camp is quite a BIG step out for our new team, but by God’s grace we will get through. Please keep the plans for camp and our team in your prayers. Thank you!

As you can see we have been doing many youth outreaches in the last six months. All of these outreaches for SU Masaka are funded by the support of General Donations from Faith Hope Love Missions. I want to THANK ALL of you for what you are doing for the youth here. Without your funding we would not be able move to the schools for trainings, have outreaches or the conferences. Hence the future for the youth of Masaka would not be so bright and they would not get the chance to know and grow in Jesus Christ!

Bless you ALL so much!!
