Make new friends but keep the old……
…..one is silver and the others gold. Remember that old song? I remember singing it in Girl Scouts and it always made me think of what a treasure friendships are to me, like a precious metal. Well last weekend I was able to make some new friendships stronger and see old friends. On Sunday I went to Watoto Church in Kampala with a few new friends and then walked around the “big city” playing tourist all day. We had a great time and I was able to see many sights up close that I’ve only passed by in the last year plus. These new friends are like silver to me!
But I’m getting ahead of myself because Saturday evening was when I spent time with my golden friends. Christian and Lida have been friends of mine for about 15 years. You say wow how can that be because you live in Uganda now? Well I meet Christian in San Diego many years ago and we became very good friends. A few years later Lidia came along. Now they are married with three beautiful children. Three years ago they got posted to an Embassy position here in Uganda. Funny thing was I was also planning on coming to Uganda, but to serve the Lord. I love how God works. They have been an amazing Blessing to me over the last year and half with helping me acclimate to the culture but also “westernizing” me when I needed it. They have given me a sanctuary for rest at their home and a sense of family, when mine is so far away. Now they are leaving to another Embassy post in Mozambique. On Saturday evening there was a going away party for them. It was bitter sweet because I’ll miss them but I know they are being sent on to help out people. They aren’t just friends anymore they are family. Like a precious golden friendship that you treasure and hold close to your heart. Thank you C & L!!
