Fellowshipping with Brothers and Sisters

Brothers and SistersHaving FUN!

You know when God puts you in the presence of Godly brothers and sisters’ life becomes very joyful! I have to say I have that experience every time I’m with my Scripture Union family. Last Friday I attended the Scripture Union Retreat with 50 of my brothers and sister. This retreat was a “reunion” of sorts and a thank you for all of the Facilitators that volunteered at the recent Mwiri Youth Camp. We all headed out of the SU Office location about 11am and headed south toward Entebbe and Lake Victoria. I wasn’t sure what to expect, since I’ve never been to a SU Retreat, but I was excited for the day. We arrived at Entebbe Botanical Park in our “rented” mwattu (taxi) and drove straight down to the lake shore. We all poured out of the taxi and ran to the lake like little kids. Since we were waiting for the others to arrive a few of us decided to go on an “adventure exploring hike”. It was so fun walking through the talk grass, and bushes to the get to the cliff side. Peering over the edge of the cliff to the see the lapping waves below, I felt so small, but in wonder of God’s creation. We all had a good time walking around and taking funny pictures of each other. (Check them out above).

When we got back to the main area we found that all the taxis had arrived and moved to a large grassy area in another part of the park so we headed over. We all gathered in a large circle and Barnabas welcomed us all.  We played the “name game” to introduce ourselves again; the 1st letter of our name and an adjective that describes us. Then it was time to praise the Lord for the day! Uncle John broke out his guitar and we all worshiped and danced praising the Lord for all He has done, created, and Blessed us with! Prayer broke out and I was so moved by it all, being in His is so amazing!

It was then time for lunch. Yummy matooke, beef stew, rice, and irish. After lunch we broke into teams and played a nursery rhymes game. That turned into quite a competition with Desire and Bernard’s teams being the instigators of competitiveness! It was all in good fun! Then we all hit the beach for some time in the sun, sand and water. Some played a bit of football and then jumped into the water to cool off! It was so relaxing hanging out by the lake shore. My friends Joel, Ron and I didn’t go swimming (too many “bugs” in the water) but we took our shoes off and walked in the sand, enjoyed all the others frolicking in the water, and took lots of pictures. I think my friend Daneen even got in a nap! That is until she was woken up by Joel shouting, “Don’t throw me in the water”.  Sure enough the guys dragged him in, clothes and all! Joel was soaked but decided, what the heck this is fun, and stayed in the lake fully clothed! Too funny!!

The afternoon reminded me of my days as a kid when my family would go camping at Lake Michigan. We would spend all day long chilling and enjoying swimming in the lake! So that day I made new memories of enjoying God’s creation, wonderful fellowship with amazing brothers and sisters, laughter, fun, and thankfulness for God Blessing me SO MUCH!
