FHLM Feb 2017 News Letter—Director’s Update, Youth Update

Greetings everyone! I hope your month of February was wonderful and full of God’s LOVE! Here is our verse for February; Romans 8:37-39 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Director’s Update:

We had our 1st Quarter Board Meeting on 11 Feb. We voted on the acceptance of two more youth into the SOAR Youth School Sponsorship Program. It was decided that Joshua Kakeeto, who will be going into Secondary 5—Advanced Levels, will be on a Half-School Sponsorship Program. It was also voted on that we will do interviews and a home visit for another potential student, Eddy Hategekimana, who is hoping to start Secondary 1. Both of these young men are exceptional students, but do to their family situations they would be not able to attend school. Taking on two more youth into the school sponsorship program will be a “big stretch” for us, but I am trusting in the Lord for His provision for them. If you wish to find out more about Joshua or Eddy or the Lord puts it upon your heart to be used to help provide an education for them, please contact me at reetsindiego@yahoo.com. Also please keep them and their family situations in prayer. Thank you!

On both the 19th and 26th I was blessed to preach at Hill Top Church Masaka. Our February was a series rarely discussed in church; “Uncovered: Love, Sex & Relationships”. Since this is a youth based church it is very fitting theme for the month. I spoke to the congregation about; how God created sex, what does culture say?, sex is for marriage, and what to do if you’ve already messed up?. Over the 2 weeks of these sermons many of the youth either came to me or the elders with questions or for counseling. This series really spurred on conversation amongst the youth. I thank God for giving Pastor Sam the topic!

Praise Report: On 23 Feb I went to Kampala to get my thyroid re-scanned and I have AWESOME news! I truly believe this report is due to prayers–the lump on thyroid is gone! Praise God! The next step is to go to the doctor and see if he can give me meds to adjust my thyroid levels. God is so GOOD! I want to sincerely THANK everyone who prayed so earnestly for my healing and THANK God for honoring the prayers of His Saints.

Prayer Request: Please continue to keep the piece of land that we are asking God for the ministry and the building of a permanent Youth Center for Masaka in your prayers. We are praying for $50,000 U.S. for the purchase of the land and the renovation of the building that sits on it. Thank you!

Youth Updates:

Since most of the youth are back in school we have started back to our After-School Bible Studies on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30-6:30pm. We are going through the books of Deuteronomy and Luke, discussing them by chapter and verse. Jane says that the discussion and participation with the study in Luke has been well received by the youth and she sees a change in their behaviors because of the studies.

Oh and a BIG THANK YOU goes out to Chris & Frank Hartman for donating 5 Bibles to us! The youth are very thankful to now have full Bibles with concordances, and easily understandable English for their weekly Bible Studies. Thanks for blessing us!

February’s Movie with a Message was “Cheaper by the Dozen”. This is a light hearted movie about a family with 12 children and the trials they experience when the parents decide to move the family to another city because of their father’s job change. After the movie we had discussion time and Cephas was one of the first to say that “If my children acted up like those kids did I won’t be a good parent and that it is important to have discipline in a family—especially one of that size”. Alpha said, “That for Uganda it is not uncommon to have a family with 12 children, but we would raise them differently”. As you have read there are big cultural differences between how Americans and Ugandans’ raise their children. Babirye said, “It is good to realize that family comes in all shapes & sizes, just like our FHLM Family.” The take-away from the movie that I shared was that we need to sometimes put family before career. Something the father in the movie said is, “If I screw up raising my kids it will be my biggest regret”, so we need to look at how important it is to love and care for our children.

Please pray for us as we seek God’s guidance and wisdom for both Alpha and Cephas’ direction with their continuing education. Alpha has completed Secondary 4, but unfortunately he did not perform well in the National Exams, so we are looking at some vocational/technical school program for him. But we are having a hard time finding a course that works for him. As for Cephas, last year he was taking a course in Computer Applications & Maintenance, but the school he was attending closed this year. So we are again looking for a school that will accept him, since he only has a Primary 7 education (7th Grade). Anyway, please pray as we need God’s wisdom in both of these matters.

Babirye, Oliver, and Joseph are all doing well and jumping into the new school term with both feet! William is still waiting on his Technical School National Exam results, but while he is waiting he is working every day earning some money for him and assisting his grandparents with living expenses. We praise God for each of these youth and all the Lord is doing in and for them!

May God continue to move in your lives and bless you for all you do, say, pray and are to this ministry and to all of us!! Thank you and have a wonderful March!

Love and God bless,

Rita
