U.S. Team-Outreach & Evangelism
What have I been up to the last 3 weeks? Well I’ve been hosting a team of 4 people from the U.S.; Paul, Erica, Kristina, and Megan. I was Blessed to co-host them with my friend, Liz. The team and I had a non-stop schedule while they were here in Masaka.
Each day we were out in the villages surrounding Masaka doing evangelism or outreach with Pastor Moses Zzimbe, Tom Kamulegeya from Serve to Save or with Moses Kalumba with African Initiative Development Project Uganda. Each day was filled with adventures, new insight from God, and a filling of the Holy Spirit.
During our days with Pastor Moses we did door to door evangelism and got to go to 3 church plants, and primary schools in the villages. The door to door evangelism was new to some of the team members and a bit daunting at first, but as they did it more it became natural. In our 3 days out in the villages 8 people came to know the Lord as their savior. I know the Holy Spirit was upon us during our time there and I pray that it keeps moving to give the people hope.
Our time with Serve to Save was very Blessed as we worked with orphaned or vulnerable children in the villages around Kiteza (near Masaka town). One of our days we visited 6 of the primary and secondary schools that Serve to Save has children at. The finest day was when we had a “fun day” with all the 211 children under the organization. The children’s choir welcomed us very warmly with awesome singing and dancing! Then our team broke up into groups and we had face painting, football, and bubble stations. Then our teams broke up into groups with the children to have a “question & answer” time. We had many questions about the U.S. & surprisingly about faith. This time then broke into song with Julius leading the way with his guitar. After a wonderful lunch we more fun with parachutes! Do you remember playing with them in elementary school? What great fun that was!! Unfortunately the day had to end but great memories were had by all!
When we went out with African Initiative Development Project Uganda we went all the way to Rakai district to a deep village close to the Tanzanian boarder. It was Erica and some of the other team members’ favorite village day. As we waited for the people in the village to gather for our talk on hygene and first aid, we visited a primary school for a bit; played and did bubbles with them. Then we went on to our main purpose for the day. There were about 20 men and women gathered around on mats for the talk. Erica lead as Megan and Paul were the picture and supplement support. The people were amazed that putting Colgate and dirty, mashed leaves on cuts and cooking oil on burns was not what should be done. Erica and the team also talked about proper tooth care. It was so great to see the “light bulb” go on when they were instructed on how to deal with those things! We had many questions about toothaches, ear and eye problems and joint pain. We answered as best as we could but that village is in need of a clinic! I pray it happens soon!
Well that is just a little snipped of what the team and I had been up to in the last 3 weeks! There is so much more because I know the Lord touched all of us but if I write all that it could be a book!! 🙂
