Rwanda Holiday
A few weeks ago I took a holiday! Often times we need a break and I’ve learned that as much as I enjoy working for God and His Kingdom I need a break every so often. This trip came about in a funny way, but doesn’t God work that way with us? Anyway, I was talking to my friend and fellow American Scripture Union volunteer, Daneen, one afternoon about going to Rwanda in July. She said hey I’m going with my friend, John and asked me to come along with her on the trip.
I traveled with Daneen, and her Rwandan friend, John, who she knows from her church in Colorado. John has an amazing story about how he has now come to CO and graduate school at Colorado State in Ft Collins, but that is another blog. Just know that God works in ALL of us if we let Him and can do amazing things.
Rwanda is full of beautiful scenery of mountains, and terraced farms on the rolling hillsides. Those along with the countries beautiful people made the trip a memorable one! We got so connect through John (I think he actually is the mayor of Kigali, the capital city)! Through John, I learned so much about Rwanda’s history and we were able to see areas off the tourist path. I was so blessed by the many new people John introduced us to. It opened the doors for us to even do some ministry work with Bridge 2 Rwanda and Tom’s Shoe while we were there. We went into a village outside of Ruhengeri and assisted with a mission group from Arkansas, in a Tom’s shoe drop at a village school. It was an awesome day! Knowing John has also opened up partnerships with a tour company and another ministry in Rwanda. We also got some sun and sand time for an afternoon at Lake Kivu. This time in Rwanda allowed me to gain refreshment and rejuvenation to re-charge my battery! Thank you Lord!!
