Rock the Vote!

The last two weeks in the Bulegeya household have been filled with political fever and campaigning excitement! Both Rock and David applied for and have been campaigning for positions as Prefects at their school, Masaka Secondary. Rock campaigned for the school Dinning Prefect and David for Lawmba House Sports Prefect. Masaka Secondary has a student population of 3,670, so applying and running for a Prefect position is difficult. One may be competing with 5 or 6 other students and must campaign to the entire school. The guys enlisted their Aunties’ computer skills to make campaign flyers and come up with fun campaign slogans. With the campaign flyers in hand they canvassed the schools grounds and distributed to all the students. David’s seat went uncontested, so he didn’t have to make a speech, but Rock did. Two days before the final vote Rock, along with the other student candidates addressed the entire student body. Rock said he was so nervous when addressing the students and administration, but he said the practice that he and I did the night before helped! On Tuesday of last week the voting took place. We were ALL very excited when the election results came out on Wednesday and they showed Rock was victorious with 1,747 votes. So FHLM now has two student Prefect leaders. I am so proud of how both David and Rock preformed and how humble they were to be voted in as Prefects.
