Robert’s Story; The Trip to Lake Mburo National Park

What a wonderful trip! The trip was very nice and interesting than I myself had expected. Right from the beginning up to the end of it, the trip was so great!

I felt so much eager to have the trip as soon as Aunt Rita introduced the idea to us for one of our break holiday programs. Eventually it came to pass.

The joy we all got as soon as we entered the car, manifested what would take place during the course of the trip. This joy came as a result of our driver, Mr. Rogers, turning on gospel praise music. Everyone seemed to be in the church, enjoying and excited while singing with the music in the car and dancing. Our driver was so much of it since he was the “fire starter”. We had confidence in him because we had asked the Holy Spirit to guide him while driving. To me while singing and dancing in the car, it turned into a serious case to think and meditate the good things that God had done for me during the course of the term at school and the previous years. I felt that I should humble myself and give Him thanks for His faithfulness to me, as well as the trip.

When we reached in the National Park, we took our time to watch the beautiful environment, especially animals. Some of these animals included; kobs, baboons, zebra buffalo, and hippos. The hippos were the biggest of all the animals. There were also two types of funny animals, these were monkeys and warthogs. There were almost everywhere. I saw one of the biggest warthogs and it really huge! There were various types of animals. This was nice to us, and David and I went ahead to try to interact with the warthog, but the warthog was not willing to and ended up grunting at us, scaring us away!!

Later we remembered that we had not eaten much yet. Then Rock had to direct us to the near fishing village to find what we could eat. It was not Rock’s first time to be in this park, hence he lead us. When we reached there, people were speaking Runyankole, my western Uganda local language. Among us no one knew this language apart from me. The lady at the village restaurant never knew English, so I was appointed as prefect in charge of food. After lunch we had to make a plan to come back for dinner. Eventually we went to the place we were going to sleep.

Before I had gone to bed that night I had to get outside the room and pray. In the moods of prayer, I had to meditate first on all that I had seen during the course of the day. I discovered more especially with the practical of all the creatures I had seen, that how great, powerful, amazing and caring God is! God created and designed the whole universe in six days. This was also another step in my salvation!

We had a great night and in the morning after breakfast, we had our own church service. Aunt Rita was willing to share with us a word. It seemed to be simple, but wonderful. It was in the book of Matthew 16: verse 25. We drove around again and in the afternoon we had to travel back to Masaka.

All I can say, it was such a wonderful time that I have ever had to enjoy and meditate on the gift of this creation of God and the care that He offers to all. Above all, He created them in six days; therefore, this wasn’t only a physical environment study trip but also a spiritual environment study trip.
