FHLM SEPTEMBER 2022 NEWSLETTER

GREETINGS:

I hope this newsletter finds you all well, healthy and happy!  I am very thankful to all those that continue to lift the ministry, the youth, and myself up in prayer.  14 “Nevertheless you have done well that you shared in my distress…..19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:14-19

DIRECTORS UPDATE:

Trip Testimony: I saved this testimony from last month because I wanted it to stand out on its own, to show God’s goodness and faithfulness. During our Kasese outreach with shared and taught about Hope, and how Hope in Christ leads to a deeper faith when trails come our way. Well on our way home our words were put into action.

As we moved back to Masaka we had a fuel stop in Mbarara. As we were leaving the petrol station, the coaster got a mechanical problem. At first we thought it was a simple fix, but as hours past, the evening turned to dark and the rain poured down, we realized that the only One that was going to help us was Jesus. As the mechanics worked we started worshiping the Lord and praying! When the mechanics completed they thanked us for praying for them and said that it had been 7 years since going to church, and we had given them hope to return to church. They also said that they wouldn’t over charge us because God was with us!

We thank God because the vehicle finally worked and we continued our journey. As we traveled back Uncle Charles and Immy led us in evening glory. They shared from the book of Jeremiah 33:10-15. We learned that we should give thanks to the Lord according to Jeremiah. We also learned that when we don’t have hope, we are like in desert. We gave testimonies and thanked God for a miracle that he had done of helping us get out of Mbarara town. We reached Masaka when it was past 10:30pm. God had turned our test into a testimony!

Board Meeting: On the 10th we had our 3rd Quarter Board Meeting. We had a bit of a low turnout but enough to make a quorum.  We discussed many important details on how to the move the ministry forward in fiscal areas like taxes, banking, accounting etc. I’m thankful to Joyce who champions that area for the ministry. We reviewed our youth’s 2nd term performances and discussed how each is getting on. We also looked at applications and discussed the two young ladies that have made the final cut for youth sponsorship. We will be making a final decision in October on which one will be accepted. Our next meeting will be our Annual General Meeting in January.

Kampala Trip: During the month I had a trip to Kampala to try to sort out a few things with my Dual Citizenship application. Please keep that process and approval in prayer, as I’m still working on it. I also picked up my dear friend Liz from the airport. She’s back in Uganda after being in U.K. for 5 months and I’m very happy to have my dear friend back!

Visitors: From 20-25 October Dave & Grace Ziegler from Louisiana will be in Masaka visiting Hilltop Church, and FHLM. Then from 21-25 November we are welcoming a team of 11 persons from Impact Christian Church in Woodland Park, CO. We ask for you to stand with us in prayer, as we pray for these teams that are coming to minister and serve God’s people in Uganda. May the Lord provide, and prepare them for all He is going to do through them.

SOAR YOUTH UPDATE:

Back to School: On 5th Sept our seven secondary youth went back to school at Masaka Secondary School. They are in their 3rd and final term of the school year. On the 6th they started a week of Beginning of Term Exams. This is a promotional term, so we ask you all to keep them in prayer for a successful term. Please continue to keep Immy and Justine in prayer, as their future plans for university or technical school depend on their National Exam scores. Thank you.

We are also thankful for the youth’s sponsors and grateful to our donors that give the youth the opportunity to attend school and to fulfill their academic dreams.

Immy’s Birthday:  On Saturday the 24th we surprised Immy in more ways than one! Her birthday is on the 27th but the youth planned out a “sneak attack” on her! What I mean by this is that in Uganda on your birthday it is common to through water on the birthday person. It represents your “birth”. Well the youth planned how to get Immy outside and drenched her with water!! I’m thankful that Justine planned in advance and brought clothes for Immy to change into. Then her second surprise was a cake, balloons and soda! It was a great day and wonderful way to celebrate this joyous young lady!!

More Fun Things: Eddy has been elected as the President of the Food & Nutrition Club at Masaka Secondary School. We are thankful to God, as we see him continue to grow in his leadership skills. On 24th Sept Milly competed in the Masaka SS Sports Day. She won both a gold and a silver medals in running during the girl’s athletes portion of the competitions. We congratulate both Eddy and Milly on their accomplishments!

YOUTH PROGRAMS:

Bible Study: This month we continued our study by chapter & verse through the Bible. We had a one day study in the short book of Philemon 1:1-25 and then started in the book of Hebrews. Hebrews is one of my favorite books of the Bible and thus far we have been blessed while studying it. The month’s study that stood out the most was on the 28th were we read Hebrews 3:1-19 and discussed Faithfulness & Rebellion. Here is what a few of the youth learned as the Holy Spirit moved during the study:

PAMELA: If you read John 1:1 Jesus is the beginning of everything, He created it all!  When we read Heb. 3:3-6 we need to learn to be like houses. A house cannot tell the owner not to bring some of the things inside it. We are Christ’s houses, let Him build you. In case He wants to bring anything into our lives, we should not rebel. We should not rebel against the owner of the house, ever!

JUSTINE: We should know that we are not perfect. We have a forgiving father. Whenever you sin, run back to the throne of grace and our God through repentance.

IMMY: In verses 12-13 it talks about being partakers of Christ so when we sin and think God cannot forgive we are believing the devils lies.

Crocheting: On the 17th Kellen led the youth by teaching them how to make table mats. They are made by using a square wood frame with nails, which is like a loom. They basically weave the yarn to make the pattern of the matt and finish it off by tying. This new skill was so wonderful for them to learn. We are thankful for Kellen’s knowledge and that at least very youth went back home a new skill. They are looking forward to making more in October.

Movie Day: On the 25th we watched more two more episodes of The Chosen —The Rock on Which it is Built and The Wedding Gift. Here are some of the lessons we all learned from these episodes.

WILLIAM: It was hard at first for Simon to accept to follow Christ, because he didn’t want to give him time and was chasing after his own solutions. Sometimes we chase things that are not even beneficial yet, God has got a good plan for us. We should yearn for what is good to God, not what the world has.

PRECIOUS: We should have faith. Simon had debts, but Eden his wife asked where his faith was. Just like Eden did for Simon, we should encourage others to follow Jesus with all our hearts.

IMMY: In life we have to choose and so you can’t choose two masters at ago. We saw this with the father of the bride at the wedding. He like to empress and look good before others but wasn’t serious with God. We should avoid things that can hinder our walk of salvation.

EDDY: Simon told Jesus to give him a moment, but it was the beginning of his new life. We need to give Jesus more time every day to work in us. He is above everything! Every problem or situation. When we remain in Christ, He is faithful and does everything in his own right time.

BELA BULUNGI (GOOD-BYE):

As you have read September has been a good month. We are forever thankful for the gift of love, prayer, and support we receive from you, our Lord’s Saints. May our Lord richly bless you and shine His light in your life!

Love and Blessings,
