FHLM NOVEMBER 2025 NEWSLETTER
GREETINGS:
Greetings to all of you!! Well can you believe we are on the cusp of Christmas? We are all excited about Christmas in Masaka and have been preparing for the last few weeks. I hope that all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.
DIRECTOR’S UPDATE:
YOUTH CENTRE: With some of the donations given while I was on Furlough in July and August we were able to purchase a 100 seater tent for the Youth Centre. As we are running out of space in the Centre, this tent will give us a much needed facility for larger programs like Brothers In Christ. Also the tent will give us capacity to host our larger events like our Annual Good Friday Program and our Annual Youth Christmas Party. In addition, the tent will allow us to grow and host seminars and training programs for both youth and the community. I am very grateful to all who help this become a reality and I’m thankful to God for His abundant provision.
VISITOR: I was very blessed to have my dear friend, Liz, back in Uganda and Masaka for the month of November. It was wonderful to spend time with her. We even had a “get-away weekend” in Kalangala Town, which is on Bugala Island in Lake Victoria. We enjoyed some beach time, relaxed a bit, and celebrated my birthday too.
BIRTHDAYS: My birthday was on 17th Nov, but we celebrated another trip around the sun for me after Bible study on the 18th. Of course we sang a few rounds of Happy Birthday, danced a bit, laughed a lot, and enjoyed cake! I am so grateful to God for the years He has given me and for all the love that has been shown to me through my friends and family! I am truly blessed!
PRAYER REQUESTS:
- Please continue to pray for peace and God’s will for the Uganda general election campaigning and the upcoming presidential elections that is to take place on 15th January, 2026.
- Please pray for Justine, Eddy and Immy to end their semester exams successfully.
- Please pray for our 3rd Term Holiday Programs and especially our Annual Youth Camp that is to take place 22nd to 25th January, 2026.
SOAR YOUTH UPDATE:
JUSTINE: The week of 1st November was African Statistics Week, so on 07th Nov Justine, and fellow KIU students, attended the Students’ Symposium at Uganda Christian University-Mukono. The theme was leveraging innovations in data and statistics to promote a just, peaceful, inclusive, and prosperous society for Africans. She said the conference was very educational and also helped her to network with other statistic students from various universities. Also congrats are in order for KIU, as they emerged as the overall winner in the Statistics Storytelling Competition with their impressive, innovative project, “Monitoring Peach and Security; Using Crime Data to Map Safe Zones and Vulnerable Communities in Uganda”.
EDDY: On 8th Nov Eddy and his fellow classmates kicked off Pharmacy Week at Kampala International Univ- Ishaka with the AMR Run (antimicrobial resistance). Throughout the week the pharmacy students did a community clean up, and public sensitization seminars on antimicrobial resistance.
SECONDARY YOUTH: The remaining Masaka Secondary youth ended their 3rd Term of school on 20th Nov (Ronnie, Mark, Pius). Pamela had completed her Secondary 4 national exams in Oct, so she has been looking for a job to work during her 4 month holiday. William had Secondary 6 National Exam briefing on 07th Nov and then had his first exam with a Chemistry Practical on 10th Nov. He ended with Subsidiary ICT on 26th Nov. We praise God that he was able to complete his Secondary Advanced Levels and we are praying for very successful results that will push him to obtain his dream of becoming a doctor! Then on 27th Nov Ruth and Charity ended their term at Timothy Girls HS. With the 3rd Term ending that brings on their longest Holiday break of the year, as they are off for 2 ½ months.
YOUTH PROGRAMS:
BIBLE STUDIES: During Nov we read through the books of Exodus 20 to 24. I enjoyed our study on 4th Nov in Exodus 21:1-36. It is about God’s preparation of Israelites before they reach the Promised Land by giving them the laws they were to follow. He wanted to take the Egyptian laws out of the Israelites hearts and replace them with His truth and guidance. Here are some of the comments from our chapter discussion.
- Babirye said that these laws provided a framework for the judges, like Moses and those appointed in Chapter 19. It also prevents revenge & gives respect for slaves, because they are also humans.
- Rita outlined verses 5-6, about slaves, verses 12-36 about cases of personal injuries, and verses 18-21 about assaults. I stated that God wanted to create boundaries and principles of living through the law given.
- Pamela shared about verses 28-29 and said that the law doesn’t stop on people but even involves animals. God was teaching them responsibilities.
- Pius spoke about verses 12-36 and how God shows us that nothing goes unpunished. He narrated the example of David and Bathsheba and the death of their son for their sins of adultery and murder.
- Ronald read verse 34 and said it was good to have a law about pregnant women because many people mistreat pregnant women, so there was a need for punishment.
- Juliet said that God was expecting his people to treat others with love and compassionate. For God values human dignity, family and responsibility.
- Shakirah said that we should get tired of the old self and put on the new self.
- Rita stated that God’s laws and not a mandate to oppress us but to shape us into people who reflects God’s heart of justice, mercy, and love.
MOVIE DAY: It has been awhile since we’ve had a Saturday movie, so on 1st Nov we watched I Still Believe. This is a very touching and heartfelt movie about how Christian singer and songwriter Jeremy Camp got his start. It narrates his inspiring journey of love and how he met his first wife, Melissa, at Calvary Chapel Bible College. Despite Melissa’s limited time in the world she inspired Jeremy’s early singing career. Soon after their marriage, she died from cancer. Jeremy struggled with God about why and later wrote the song I Still Believe.
- Rita- This quote from Melissa really touched my heart, “God maybe has chosen something bigger for me. If through this all God uses it to change someone’s life that’s what my sickness was meant for”
- Pamela- She said that God creates some people to be gateways and to help someone’s life to change. She shared a story about her younger sister dying and that this why the family moved to Masaka. So her sister’s death opened up a gate for Pamela to come to FHLM and meet us all.
- William- He said that everything happens for a reason. That in life we meet different people and we don’t know that they will be there for us but God’s will shall prevail.
- Juliet said that we have to believe in God no matter what.
- Pius- He related Melissa’s situation to King Hezekiah, who prayed to God for more years. He said this is how Melissa was given more 6 months for her to get married. He also said that suffering doesn’t destroy faith, rather it refines it.
PRISON OUTREACH: After lunch at the Youth Centre on 8th Nov we had an outreach to the Masaka Women’s Prison. At the time there were 122 women incarcerated at the prison. We took them baby clothes, as 8 of the women’s are there with their babies. We also took Vaseline for their skin, a luxury not given them while in prison. It was an amazing day, as the BEST thing we took them was the Word of God!
We thank the Lord for the messages that Ronnie and Pamela shared with the women on forgiveness. Ronnie read and shared from Matthew 18:21 and Pamela narrated the story of Joseph (Genesis 37). Pamela said that Joseph couldn’t handle the pain on his heart and he had to cry out to release it from his heart. As forgiveness needs God’s mercy. Women were so touched, some felt it difficult to forgive but we shared that it’s not all about us, but God’s grace and mercy. I’m thankful to the whole team as they contributed to the success of the day. Mostly we praise God, because 11 women gave their lives to Christ! All glorify the Lord as we celebrate our new sisters in Christ.
BROTHERS IN CHRIST: On 22nd we were blessed to have Pastor Phillip Kibanja from Masaka Full Gospel speak to the young men. After lunch, and an opening prayer, William led a few praise and worship songs. Then Pastor jumped in to his topic of the day, Spiritual Warfare. He focused on standing firm in Christ, against the world, the flesh and the devil. He also brought forth relevant and common youth habits and challenges of masturbation, drugs, gambling, and fornication. He pulled Biblical principals from these scriptures; John 15:18-19, John 17:14-17, and Romans 12:2. He also shared his own testimony and struggles with masturbation. We praise God for the teaching, and mentorship that Pastor Kibanja is giving these young men.
FARMING DAY: On 26th Nov those who come on time to the Centre started the digging before lunch time to prepare the land for planting. After we had our lunches we began planting Irish potato seeds in our prepared garden and also made a small nursery bed for cucumbers. Every one worked hard and we thank God for blessing us with power and strength for the work. We’re looking forward to a bountiful harvest in a few months!
BELA BULUNGI (GOOD-BYE):
May our Lord be with all of you during this Christmas Season! We at FHLM send much love and joy from our family to your families. I also thank everyone for their continued prayers, support, encouragement, and love. May God bless you!
