FHLM MAY 2025 NEWSLETTER

GREETINGS:

Greetings everyone and Praise God! We are all doing well here in Masaka! I the month of May we were happily active with FHLM Holiday Programs with the youth. Colossians 3:23-24 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.

DIRECTORS UPDATE:

PUBLIC HOLIDAY: On 1st May we celebrated Uganda Labour Day. This year’s theme was “Industrialization, Trade, and Decent Work for Social Justice”.  The theme emphasized the importance of industrialization and trade in creating and promoting economic and job growth. The countries main celebration took place in Nakapiripiriti, in Eastern Uganda.

CHURCH: Each year my new church, Full Gospel, divides the church members into 4 groups to meet together monthly, share needs, encourage each other, and minister to the whole church two times a year. That said over the last two month I’ve been engaged in meetings as secretary of our church ministering group—True Worshippers. As this is a large church, it has been a joy to get to know other church members in our group. This group will meet together for the next 2 years.

SPECIAL EVENING: On 12th May Shakirah, Julius, and I were invited to attend a Seder at Willow Resource Centre. Dr. Roy Brown led the traditional Jewish ritual meal, which is usually celebrated on the first night of Passover. Seder commemorates the Israelite’s’ Exodus from Egypt. It was a blessing to experience the Bible stories, symbolic foods, prayers, and songs with 29 other brothers and sisters in Christ.

PRAYER REQUESTS: Please prayer for the secondary youth as they return to school for their 2nd term. For God’s safety and protection as they walk back and forth to school. Also for the Lord to impart His wisdom, knowledge and understanding to them as they learn.

YOUTH UPDATE:

FASTING & PRAYERS: Every Thursday during holiday was a fasting day for all of us! We took the hour that we would usually have lunch and prayed for various people and the prayer requests we had. Then we went into our Bible Study time. Days like are so special because they bring us closer to the Lord and teach us to rely on Him.

EXTRA CLASSES: 1st Term Holiday for William, Pius, Pamela, Mark and Ronnie began on 29th April. During the holiday William was busy taking top up classes in Math, Chemistry, and Biology. Both Charity and Pius took a special training in Divinity. And Ruth and Pamela were engaged in extra classes in Chemistry and Biology.

BACK TO SCHOOL: On 17th May Shakirah and I took Ruth and Charity back to Timothy Girl’s HS for the start of 2nd Term.  On 26th May the remaining secondary students started Term 2 at Masaka SS. We are praying that all of our youth.

UNIVERSITY YOUTH: Oliver, Justine and Eddy all ended their 2nd Semester on 28th May.

Since this is Oliver’s last semester of university she will start her final Internship on 2nd June in Zana, an Entebbe suburb. This internship will last 28 days and she will be focusing on men’s ware.

Unfortunately as of the end of May Justine still has not received an Internship. We have all been praying for God to open doors for her and I’ve been using my contacts, but nothing yet. Please continue to pray for her. Thank you!

Eddy came back to Masaka for the semester break on 26th May. He joined us for Bible study on the 27th and it was very good to have him around. He will be in Masaka till the end of June.

Immy is still working in Kampala and preparing to start university in August. On 5th June she will be taking her pre-entry exam to join the Faculty of Law at Bishop Stuart University. This exam determines her acceptance into the program. Please keep her in prayer as she studies, travels to Mbarara, and sits for the exam. Thank you.

YOUTH HOLIDAY PROGRAMS:

DOUBLE PROGRAM: On Wednesday 30th April 2025 the young ladies, along with Juliet and Shakirah crocheted baby hats in various colors. They did a great job and looked so nice! The baby hats we made will help us to have something to give to the mother in hospital during the hospital outreach. We thank God who helped them to do something beneficial on this day.

That same day the young men had Brothers In Christ. The day’s theme was “A Man In The Image of Christ.”  Uncle Julius shared a bit about the theme and then led off the afternoon with a question to the guys: “What Kind of Man Do You want to be in 5 Years?” After discussing this they had 2 more sessions. Uncle Isaac elaborated about leadership as a man and Uncle Julius shared about what it means to be a hard worker. They ended the day with a question & answers time and prayers. Mark said that he learned the features that cam make a man different; Being God fearing, honest, trustworthy, kind, and a problem solver. Ronnie said that he learned the qualities of a hardworking man.

SKILLS TRAININGS: From 5-7 May and 12-14 May we had Miss Harriett come to the Centre to train the young ladies in hairdressing. Throughout the 6 days the young ladies learned how to wash, and treat hair. Then they learned how to do simple braids, triple or rope braids, and corn rows. They practiced these styles on Charity and also on mannequin heads. This skill will allow them to have a skill to earn money either on their secondary 4 or 6 vacations or while at university. They were very thankful for the knowledge gained!

Uncle Julius is a trained mechanic, so over 5 of the 6 days he taught the guys general car mechanics and maintenance. They learned both theory and practical aspects of cars cooling system, how to change a tire, the breaking system, and general dashboard system signals, and the overall workings of an engine.

Ronnie said it was a good training. That he now knows how the car parts work and how to do simple, easy car mechanics. Mark said it was interesting to learn the car brands and the countries they originate from, like BMW from Germany, Tesla from America. He also learned that regular car maintenance is important.

TALK: On 10th May Dr. Roy Brown from Israel came to the Youth Centre. Before he came the youth asked me to send him these topics to discuss with them: a general overview of the tabernacle, what the temple represents, and 12 tribes of Israel, and the Ark of the Covenant—it’s history and how it relates to present day life.

Dr. Brown thoroughly covered their topics and more! He shared mock ups of the tabernacle and the 1st Temple and he taught us all about the tabernacle, and the temple. He got into great detail about the Ark of the Covenant too. He then shared his own personal pictures of present day Jerusalem and the Temple Mount and talked about its significance today. Many of the youth had questions for him and as he answered he gave them biblical references and pictures. This session helped to open up the youth’s eyes to see and understand the Word of God in a deeper way. I thank Dr. Brown for coming to speak and sharing his vast knowledge with us. We also thank Aunt Kelsey from Willow Foundation for sharing him with us for the day.

BIBLE STUDIES: On 8th May we ended our time in the book of Genesis by reading Genesis 50:1-26. Then on 15th May we started the book of Exodus. We showed a movie clip from The Bible that previewed the highlights of the book of Exodus from the Israelites moving from Canaan to Egypt during the famine to Moses coming back to Egypt to rescue them from slavery.

After the movie I did an overview of the book of Exodus. Then I shared its five sections; slavery, rescue and redemption, guidance, the Ten Commandments with moral law and instruction, and the Nation of Israel. I also shared that the major key to the story of Exodus is God’s guidance and being determined to follow God. We then read Exodus 1:1-22. Here are our insights from that chapter.

  • Rita said that Pharaoh oppressed the Israelites in slavery both physically and spiritually. The “slavery” you are in will kill your spiritual life if you do not let Jesus set you free.
  • Shakirah shared from verses 6-8. She said that the seed that was planted in the 70 descendants of Jacob gave them hope that one day they would overcome their slavery. That as believers was are to allow the “seed of God’ to grow!
  • Juliet read Acts 5:29—that we should obey God rather than man. That in Exodus 1:19-20 the midwives feared God and were blessed. Also in previous chapters of Genesis, God made a promise with Abraham and we see it fulfilled in Exodus 1:7.
  • Ronald supplemented on Juliet’s comment and read Deuteronomy 26:5, about the promise. He said that there is the fulfillment of the promise of Abraham in the book of Exodus.
  • William said that sometimes we enslave ourselves. That we should be careful on our jobs, and at our work places in our 1st weeks, for what we do then sets the tone for our work environment. He also said that it’s not good to be enslaved with our jobs, as we should have time for the Lord church, and family.
  • Pamela said that the devil always wants to “kill “our destiny. We read that he was trying to fight against the Israelites via the mid wives. In verse 20, we read God’s kindness upon the mid wives.
  • Charity shared from verse 12-16, that we should be patient, knowing that if we endure God will rescue us.
  • Ronald read from Deuteronomy 26:6 and Psalm 81:6. He said God himself has a good plan over you. There’s no padlock made without a key.
  • Pius said that phases of life need perseverance and faith. Just as in these Bible stories we continue to see God’s plan revealed for mankind. That sometimes we suffer but there’s “No gain without pain”.  Proverbs 9:10

CAMP: Pamela, Mark and Ronnie attended C2C Camp at Lake Nabugabo from 16-18 May. Come to Christ International Ministries (C2C) organizes this camp every year in first term holiday. This year’s theme was J.O.Y.—Jesus 1st, Others 2nd, You last. Here are some comments from the youth that attended:

  • Ronald said that it was good because they ate, found new friends.
  • Pamela learnt how to swim. Also from the camp theme- ‘Joy’ Jesus first, Others second, you last. Acts 20:35, she learned not to be selfish. She said it was a different camp compared to past years.

OTHER PROGRAMS: On 20th May we were to have volleyball, but it rained all afternoon, so we had indoor games. Of course, the youth picked Monopoly! Pius was the overall winner for the day and Ronnie came in second. Then on the 23rd we work on our annual picture collage that hangs in the lounge of the Youth Centre. This is always a fun way to end the first term holiday by looking back at the past year’s events and memories!

MOVIE DAY: On 31st May we had a special movie day in which we combined with Brothers in Christ and Sisters of Strength. We had over 20 youth in attendance for the movie. The theme was about the relationships and the movie was ‘’I’m In Love With A Church Girl.’’

The movie centered around Miles, a wayward guy that was dealing drugs and into rap music and Vanessa a strong, born again, believer. Though Miles came from a believing family he wasn’t a born again and he didn’t understand it all. The movie starts when the Miles meets Vanessa at a party given by her pastor. Miles falls in love with Vanessa, but the two were unyoked, because one was a believer and Miles was a drug dealer. But we see Vanessa helping Miles to know Christ. She persisted in prayer for him, invited him to church and Bible studies, and with the help of God, till Miles learnt. He faced many challenges, but it was God training him to become a true believer and a better person in life. Through his mom passing away, Vanessa getting into a serious accident and his childhood friends being imprisoned he came to realize that it was God calling him. Fortunately, Miles changed, married Vanessa, and became a pastor. These are the lessons some of the youth learned:

  • Pamela said we should show the light to others, be the living example to others. Keep purity, learn how to discern, be inspired by the scriptures.
  • Both Zimbe and Sakib said that we need to be persistence to change, and persevere.
  • Precious said that God is ready to use us when we are ready. That we should know who you are, your identity in Christ and persist on your faith
  • Blair shared about the price in a call from God. That as He fulfills His call in you He tests, just as he did Miles.
  • Ronald said that some challenges are steps to our success.
  • Eddy said that we are not to judge people, but to show them the truth and light. God’s love is unconditional, and He never gave up on Miles
  • Zimbe said that sometimes God prunes our friends so we can bear fruit. He did that with Miles and his friends.

BELA BULUNGI (GOOD-BYE):

We are so excited and happy to be a part of all God is doing! By His grace, your donations and prayers we are able to continue serving the Lord here in Masaka. We thank you all!

Love and Blessings,
