FHLM June 2019 Newsletter
Director’s Update:
Greetings everyone! Though you in the states celebrate the U.S. holiday like Memorial Day or Labor Day, Uganda has its own Public Holidays and June is full of them: Uganda Martyrs’ Day on the 3rd and Eid Mabarak on the 4th and Hero’s Day on the 9th , so we did a lot of celebrating this month!
Over the weekend of the 14th I took two days off and went to Kampala to visit with my friends Sarah & Ricky Dodzweitz. It had been several months since I had seen them, so it was so good to be together, catch up and also see how their son, Benji, has grown. He is now walking, becoming a big boy, and is as cute as ever! We had a lovely visit! I’m so grateful to have special friends like them.
Also I lost my Step-Dad, Mike Fouts, on the 28th from a heart attack. I ask for you all too please continue to pray for my Mom during this time of grieving, big change and loss in her life. But that said we are blessed because my step-Dad was a believer and I know he is in heaven with Jesus making Him laugh and tending His garden. We celebrate him and his life!
Here’s what we’ve been up to in June:
Youthz Update:
We kicked off the month of June with Sports Day on the 1st and volleyball was the game of the day. We had a close 1st match between Team Rita & Team Jus, Rita’s Team won 15-13! Unfortunately just as we started match 2 it began to rain, so we went inside and played a rip, roaring game of Monopoly for 3 hours!
First Term for the secondary students is in full swing and they had their beginning of Term Exams their 1st week back. Most of them said that the exams were fair as in some of the classes they tested on new items. Since Justine and Oliver are both Secondary 4 Candidates this year and for many students S4 will be as far as they go in school, the schools have Leavers Parties. Leavers Parties are similar to Prom in the U.S. and just as prom the youth dress up. Between Jane and I we were able to find some party dresses, shoes and jewellery to lend the girls so they could look very smart for their party that was on the 9th.
We had Back To Success on the 8th. Aunt Faridah was back this month and she led the youth’s in a Physics Review. She had to redo the topic of Force since all students seemed not to remember much. She gave them the definition of Force, SI unit for force being Newtons, types of forces and she listed Mass, as a quantity of matter an object contains, and its SI unit as kgs, Weight as a gravitational pull in the body, and its SI unit as Newtons. She taught each student that mass is a scalar quantity and weight is a vector quantity. After all this she gave examples of how to calculate Mass and Weight, and after students had learnt how to calculate those, she gave them a take home about the topic. Then she jumped into new topic and taught about Friction and gave the types which were Dynamic/Kinetic and Static Friction. She gave advantages and disadvantages of friction and practical examples of each. Then she gave them related homework problems to practice all they had learnt. Physics isn’t an easy subject, but we pray that this teaching sticks this time!
Babirye is back to Masaka for her 2nd Semester break and she has now completed her 1st year of university. Well done Babz!! During her long holiday she worked first as a waitress at Halarr Restaurant in Kampala and now she is with Quality Events Masaka helping with catering. This will give her some extra money to buy personal needs and personal requirements for university.
Joshua is still on his Secondary 6 Break and has been helping out his sister with babysitting and cleaning. He also spent the first 2 weeks of June at MK Driving School and got his Learners Permit. He will now be able to practice his new found driving skills for the next 3 months. We pray that we can get funds for his actual Driving Permit which cost 450,000 shillings ($125 U.S).
We celebrate life at FHLM, so on the 18th after Bible Study we celebrated Justine’s 17th Birthday!! Happy Birthday Sweet Girl!! And on the 26th after school we celebrated Willy’s 15th Birthday with homemade brownies, sodas, and songs of Happy Birthday!! We pray that the Lord bless these two with long life, and His abundant blessings!
Visitor’s At FHLM: On the 11th Tim Way and team from Believers Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma came to visit us for our Tuesday After-School Bible Study. It was so great to see Tim, catch up with him a little, share a bit with the team, and show them the Youth Centre before all the youth arrived from school. When the youth arrived they were excited to meet the guest and introduce themselves. Then we had an opening prayer from Joshua and jumped into study of 2 Kings 2 & 3. Tim gave a brief review of 2 Kings 2 and then Joshua read all of 2 Kings 3 and we all discussed the chapter. God really gave the youth insight and life applications from the Word. What a blessed evening!
Movie Day: These are the lessons learnt from the Movie Day we had on 15th June in which we watched Ring the Bell.
- Eddy- Don’t live by what you feel, but by God’s truth and when we get to know the truth it will set us free. If the son of man gets the joy after one confesses (Rob confessed) Christ, how much more is it in heaven.
- Jane- Nothing is impossible with God. It was hard for Rob to believe, but God won his heart and he finally rang the bell, a sign of accepting Christ
- Justine- Rob needed to turn to God at times, but pride hindered him to believe. Let us trust in God, He will see us through it all.
- Oliver- We need to be patient in all situations, Rob was patient with the mechanic that was fixing his car. And then remember to celebrate with those celebrating life.
- Hanisha- Let us do what we have experience in, God is the best time??
- Immy- Life with Jesus is different and joyous

Outreach: On Saturday the 22nd we went to Nurture Babies Home. Our theme was “Jesus is the Sower. I can sow too!” based on verses from Matthew 13:24-30. It was blessed day sharing with the children! The team taught the children a few new songs; “This little Light of Mine” and “Jesus on the Inside”. After Alpha led the Bible time teaching the children about sowing good seeds of the spirit; peace, love, joy, patience, kindness and not letting the devil plant bad seeds in our minds & hearts or uprooting the good seeds God has planted. Justine led the memory verse time in Galatians 6:7….. and then the team helped the children write down the memory verse on their color sheets. Next it was games time! Joshua was games coordinator and our youth were team leaders for the children. They taught them 2 new games; wheelbarrow race and seed spitting. Each game was great fun and I hope Aunt Fay is OK with us teaching the kids spitting. It was wonderful to have Cephas, one of our old SOAR Youth, join the team for the day. We thank God for giving us His Spirit and joy as we ministered to the children!
Arts & Crafts: We topped the month off on the 29th with learning how to make Bottle Cap Trivets. We have an abundance of bottle caps from our monthly movie day sodas, so we are recycling them and scraps of fabric to make these trivets. It takes a while to sow the small fabric covers for the bottle caps so the youth won’t be able to have a finished product until 2nd Term Holiday, but they have made a big start. They really enjoyed learning a new skill and a way to make presents for their families or guardians.
Prayer Requests:
- Please pray for the youth to continue to be strong in wisdom and knowledge as they move through the remainder of this school term. Also for their protection as they travel to and from school each day.
- Please pray for God to avail the funds for my Furlough Plane Tickets. Thank you!
It was another fun filled month at FHLM! We are so blessed to be able to bring these youth so many interesting and life changing programs, let alone be able to put them through school. They have found a home with us and I’m so thankful to God for using you all to give them those things. Thank you all! May the Lord God almighty bless you richly. Have a wonderful July!!
Much Love and blessings,
Rita Bulegeya-Director Faith Hope Love Missions
