Thanks for your prayers our missionaries Kristina & Adam Sargent arrived safe & sound in Entebbe on 29 June.

JANE’S JABBERINGS
Hello friends in the U.S., this is JANE FRANC trying to bring to you closer the FHLM Programs for the month of June.
To begin with, some of our youths took part in the Uganda Marathon which was held on the 5th June 2016. This Marathon was purposely to raise funds for the disabled children in Uganda. As the Director earlier informed you, Alpha and William were in the top 20s, in the 10km! Isn’t that amazing?

As FHLM Family, we always have programs run on the daily basis; we always have Bible Studies which the youths enjoy so much. They are always free to express themselves about what is studied, which explains how much they understand the Scripture of the day.

We continued with the Freedom Writers’ life skill this month, since we had not completed it during the holiday. I am very happy to inform you that this class has helped our youths to open up, and some of them have already started to write their life story in their journals. This class helped our youths to have a strong bond to one another after discovering that they are a family. How did they come to know this? It so happened that, the teacher asked these youths some questions after drawing a line, and if anyone had ever experienced or done what she asked, s/he had to stand on the drawn line. At the end of that session, they all noticed that they had very many things in common which bound them together as a family.  On Tuesday 28th we had a life skill which taught us to deal with criticism. Here are some of the techniques this life skill taught our youths:

  • Fogging; Reacting to criticism like an object hitting a fog.
  • Agreeing with any truth( answering back gently) Proverbs 15:1
  • Agreeing with probable truth.

This month’s movie (GOD’S NOT DEAD) taught the youths that they should always stand up for their GOD and FAITH even if they happen to live in an environment of atheists! Josh one of the Main Characters in this movie chose to stand up for the truth that GOD’S NOT DEAD, and this opened the eyes of all the other students who were blindfolded by their parents and professor that GOD is Dead. After a clear explanation from Josh about GOD’S existence, all students believed that GOD’S NOT DEAD.

Oh yah, let me tell you about the J.A.M (Jesus And Me) Session of this month. We had it on the 25th June, 2016. Did you know that the MC J.A.M (Joseph) is at school and in boarding section? Yes he is, so this time around, Alpha and Meddy were the MCs. It was really cool to have them take us through this session. Everyone around liked it, though power was off the whole Saturday, so we didn’t use any instruments. Though it was my first time to attend J.A.M when power is off, I very much enjoyed it more than any I had attended before, because everyone was actively involved, and it was really fun!

A good number of funny and educative stuff were shared. Aunt Rita taught us The Chicken Dance and we all joined her in the dance. The youths had an arm wrestling competition, and this involved only two groups. The first group had Meddy and Alpha competing, and the second group had Winnie and Trust competing. In the first group Alpha won and Meddy lost whereas it was a draw between Trust and Winnie.
If I miss telling you about this, then I have told you nothing about J.A.M. Can you guess what it is? Oh No, let me not bother you with guessing, this was a very wonderful educative and inspirational tale from one of the youths who attended this J.A.M Session and his name is Raj. He told us that there lived a very rich man who had donkeys, horses, and cattle. One day, his beloved white horse fell into a very deep pit, and he couldn’t remove it by himself. He called upon his neighbors to help him out, but they all refused to help him, claiming that let his money help him out! Since the rich man loved his horse so much, he decided to bury it alive in that very pit. What he did was to hire some men to fill the pit with soil, and so these men started to do the work perfectly well, thinking that they were burying the horse, not knowing that they were giving it a ladder to climb over, as it drew near the opening of the pit.

Wow! I think you have liked this as much as I did!
Lesson: In life, people tend to hate and beef us because of what we are and have. They start pouring poison to us, speaking heal about us, but my dear don’t lose heart, remember every bad thing they talk about you is a ladder for you to step forward drawing you near to that final destination GOD  prepared for you!

Thank you for reading all of our June happenings! We pray that you and your families had a wonderful 4th of July! Thank you for your continued prayers and love.
Have a blessed day!
Jane and Rita

We’re JUMPING for JOY because we’re BACK TO SCHOOL! All of our SOAR Youth went back to school for 2nd Term on June 5th & 6th. Babirye is now in Secondary 5 Boarding. A big thank you goes out to her sponsor for helping her get into boarding! Our new student, Oliver, joined Alpha and Babirye at Masaka Secondary School. She started in Secondary 1 and this is a big change for her so please keep her in prayer. Thanks! Joseph joined boarding at Mbuye Farm School in Kyotera—about 45 kilometers from Masaka. He will be working toward a certificate in Agriculture and Farm Management. Both William and Cephas are in their 2nd Term at technical school. David should be completing his last semester at NIAAD in July.  Can you believe we have 7 in school? I thank God for He has taken us far!
