FHLM July Update-Kenya, FHLM Youth, Movie Nite, Youth Camp-Out, Missionaries, NEW Office, Church
Greeting from Masaka! July was a very busy and important month for all of us here at FHLM!
From 03-08 July my friend, Liz, and I went to Mbita, Kenya, about a 7 hours bus ride from Kampala. This was the first personal trip that I had taken in 3 years and it was much needed! It was wonderful to be witness to my friend, Daneen’s, Kenya wedding to another American missionary, Joe Peterson. Besides being busy with wedding functions we did get to go on a ½ day safari to Ruma National Park. We witnessed the beauty, majesty, and splendor of God’s creation! It was so great to have a change of scenery!
FHLM Youth Update- Rock ran for a prefect position, as Assistant Head Boy at Masaka Secondary School. He won in a land slide, by beating out another candidate that is in Senior 6! This is a very important leadership position to hold at such a large school, 4,000 students in attendance. He will start his new post the beginning of 3rd Term. David continues to study hard and is preparing for his Senior 6 Mock Exams in lue of the Uganda National Exams and the end of high school in November.
We have also been doing assessment interviews and in-take on 2 young ladies as potential candidates for the FHLM SOAR Project—Babirye Namutebi and Faridah Nakimera. Babirye is 16 years old and has been living with her maternal grandmother, whom is in her mid-70’s, since she was 5 years old. She has a mother, but has not seen or heard from her in 5 years. She is currently in Secondary 2 at government school that does not allow her excel do to its overcrowded class rooms and poor teachers. We can see she is an excellent student and has the potential to excel in school. She enjoys music and is in the church choir. I will tell you about Faridah next month, but until than we are asking for your prayers for Full Time School Sponsors for these young ladies. If you do find that your heart & God are leading you to sponsor please contact me at the email address below. Thank you!
From 12-14 July Rock, David and I attended the Soweto Youth Fellowship Camp-out at Lake Nabugabo. There were 27 youth in attendance. The weekend consisted of fun, food & God! There were many first for some of the youth; 1st hot dog eaten, 1st time sleeping in a tent, 1st time seeing the lake, and 1st time swimming! On Saturday the visiting pastors held a Prayer, Praise & Worship Night. Wow did the Holy Spirit fall! Sunday morning we had a church service next to the lake. What a beautiful place to hear the Word of God preached. Many of the youth shared testimonies about how the weekend changed them and their walk with the Lord. The end of the service turned into an amazing prayer time with visions, and prophesy had by many. My personal vision and utterance from the Lord was that, “this remnant of youth will produce spiritual fruit for generations to come within Uganda, that house churches; like those in Acts would start and that revival would come through them”. What an amazing weekend!
On 20 July FHLM hosted our 3rd Movie with a Message Night! The 25 youth in attendance watched Left Behind-A World at War. At the end of the movie we had a Q&A time. Four young men spoke up and said that the movie impacted them. That they learned that even if you have had a bad past that God will accept you as His and you can ask Jesus to be your Lord & Savior, that when you are born again that no matter what-you should be doing the Lord’s work and seeking His will for your life. Wow what incredible insight they had! I pray we can continue watering the seeds that have been planted and seeing these youth grow in Him!
KHOP Long Term Team-The 6 Long Term Missionaries that remained in Uganda have scattered around the country. Chelsea went to serve in a therapy/counseling position with an organization outside Lira, in eastern Uganda. John, Darren O, Kiana, and Caroline have made Masaka their home base, but have been traveling a week at a time ALL over the country. During their travels they have done church plants, brought hundreds to the Lord, and participated in healings & deliverances. Jamechia has spent the bulk of her time serving in Masaka with Children for the Kingdom of Heaven, a local street child & youth ministry. During her time with the street kids she has ministered to them through football (soccer) and has seen 14 come to Salvation with the Lord. She is also doing Bible Studies with them 3 days a week. She has also served with FHLM with two secondary school outreaches sharing her testimony and disciplining the youth at Kikaalala SS and Masaka SS and with FHLM interviews & youth assessments. She is also working with the Children’s Ministry at Tabernacle, our church plant in Buleyi.
Praise Report: FHLM moved into our 1st Office on 27 July. We are co-sharing the office space with another NGO. This was a leap of faith for FHLM, as on a monthly basis we are short the rental fee of approximately $30.00 U.S., but God told me that we need to stop talking about having a office and Believe that He can provide for it!! The office will be used for daily administrative work, meetings, Youth Discipleship, Youth Life skills, Leadership Trainings & Counseling, Woman’s Group Trainings, our monthly Movie Nites and much more!
Big Prayer Request: Please pray for the Tabernacle Church plant Rogers Bulegeya and I have in the village of Buleyi. On 16 July when the contractors were trying to raise the roof to fix the water damaged foundation the building collapsed! We are now starting from scratch. We have been able to rebuild the foundation, put up wooden poles and reuse the iron sheets for the roof, but there are no sides and rainy season has started. Thanks for your prayers!
As you can see God is on the move in Uganda and around Masaka and we are very happy and excited to be a part of it all! Please keep praying for all of us here; the 6 Long Term Missionaries, Rogers, Rock, David, Babirye, Faridah, the Soweto Youth Fellowship members, the youth of Masaka and the volunteers of FHLM! Thank you!
Have a Blessed day with our Lord!!
Love you all!
Rita
