FHLM JULY 2022 NEWSLETTER

GREETINGS:

Greetings and God’s blessings from all of us at Faith Hope Love Missions (FHLM)! Wow the month of July flown by, maybe because it was such a busy month for all of us! Philippians 4:6-7Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

DIRECTORS UPDATE:

Visitors: From 9th to 22nd July my brother, Rob, his wife, Jackie, and my niece, Blakeley were in Uganda. The first weekend they were at my home in Masaka and attended Sunday service with me at Hilltop Church. Then from 11th-19th July we were on a tour and safari of Western Uganda. We started out at Lake Mburo National Park where we did a night game drive and were able to see spotted hyenas and a leopard. The next morning as we were headed for our early morning Nature Walk we got to see two adolescent leopards very close to the road. Then as we walked through the savannah with our ranger we were blessed to be up close and personal with a large herd of giraffe and many baby giraffe.

The next day we were off to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The following morning we completed a “bucket list” item for several of us by trekking through the dense jungle to view a troop of mountain gorillas. It was a surreal experience! I thank God and my family for helping me to attain this unforgettable achievement!

After the morning in Bwindi we were off to Lake Bunyoni for some rest and relaxation! We then did several days of safaris in Queen Elizabeth NP & Murchison Falls NP where we saw an abundance of animals including large herds of elephants and two good size prides of lions. We even had a treat and were blessed with seeing two of the famous tree climbing lions in a large octal tree. The next day we headed to Budongo Forest where we had an amazing experience trekking chimpanzees!

It was finally time to head back to Masaka but on the way we stopped off, very early in the morning, at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. We were blessed to see about 10 rhinos that morning! We were than off for our long drive back to Masaka. What an amazing adventure we had! God gave us so much favor as we searched out His creation.

We spent the next few days back in Masaka where the family was able to visit the FHLM Youth Centre and participate in our evening Wednesday Bible Study (see below).  I’m very grateful to God for giving me the gift of family and that they were able to visit me in His appointed time. I also thank God for His abundant journey mercies as we traveled over a thousand kilometers around the Pearl of Africa!

More Visitors: Please pray for Lily and Gabby Eastham, as they are traveling to Uganda on 30th July for over 2 weeks. They will be in Masaka ministering with the FHLM youth from 8th to 12th August. May God give them journey mercies and bless their time in Uganda as they give back to others.

SOAR YOUTH UPDATE:

Scouts: The weekend of 9th July Milly and her fellow Scout members attended a Southern Region Camporee at Nabugabo Kasaka Campsite. Her Scout troop placed 1st in the competition out of 19 secondary school troops in attendance. They were able to advance to the National Camporee being held in Kampala area from 13 to 15 August. We hope that they win!

Justine & Immy: These young ladies are both candidates; Justine in S6 (Senior) and Immy S4 (Sophomore). They are preparing for their big Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) Exams that will be held in October and November, so we ask for your prayers for God’s wisdom and knowledge to be imparted to them.

Other Secondary Youth: The remaining secondary youth; Pamela (S1), Pius (S2), William & Milly (S3), and Eddy (S5) started End of 2nd Term Exams on 18th July and are scheduled to end on 3rd August, We pray that they complete very well!  They are getting out 2 weeks earlier than the government’s official end of term date due to the continual rise in commodity prices. Most schools have ran out of money and are now closing the term earlier than expected.

Oliver: On the 4th July she started her Internship at J. Nanyondo Apparel in Kampala. She will be there for 2 months developing her tailoring and design skills. We wish her the best! She will start her 2nd year of Tailoring & Design the end of August.

Joshua: From 20th May till 12th July Joshua we part of a team of doctors and other pharmacists that led free Health Outreach Camps for different communities in and around Ishaka, Uganda. Joshua said that these camps helped him gain so much experience. He is now able to be given symptoms and or a disease and diagnose the medication for them.  He was also blessed to be put into a leadership position as Head of Team Pharmacy Group for the weeks of camps. God is so gracious and blessing him with much wisdom and knowledge. He then came back to Masaka on the 14th for a much needed rest!

YOUTH PROGRAMS:

Games Day: Since it was so hot and dusty outside we opted to have Indoor Games on the 2nd. It was many of the youth and Kellen & Charles’ first time to play Monopoly. I was the banker. The game started a bit slow, as many were learning, but after a while there was much activity, laughter, and even side deals for properties. By the end of the day no one wanted to end. Despite never playing, Kellen was the big winner of the day— mugaga (the rich one)!

Outreach Day: On 16th July we had Hospital Outreach in which we visited Children’s Ward. Before we left the Centre I (Kellen) shared with the youth a word from the book of James 5:15 that says And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. I encouraged all of us to increase our faith and walk in that verse. I encouraged them not to call it a mere praying and told them to have faith and believe that the children they were going to pray for would be healed depending on the faith of the one praying.

On each bed we encouraged the parents to have faith that the children would get healed, laid our hands on sick children and prayed for them. Though some were Muslim they still accepted to be prayed for. We gave sweets to all the children we prayed for and gave small Luganda Bibles (John and Romans) to the caregivers and parents of the sick children that accepted them. We left the hospital when it was past 5:00 pm. The day was successful.  (Written by Kellen Niyomukiza)

Bible Study: This month we ended our Wednesday Evening Bible Study in 2 Timothy, started and completed the short book of Titus. On the 20th we had visitors. Aunt Rita’s brother and family; Robert, Jackie and Blakeley came to the center and we shared with them the Bible Study from the book of Titus 2:1-15 which was led by Aunt Rita. These are some of the lessons learnt.

  • Uncle Robert: These verses are instruction for all of us to obey; on how to live and how to be role models as older men & women. God is omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent.
  • Aunt Jackie: We should keep in line with the word of God. God gave us grace through Jesus who died for us.
  • Pamela: We are called upon to have self-control in every situation (vs.5,12). God does not like disorganized people because He is organized.
  • Immy: We are called upon to be examples to others, no matter our age! Then think of the people that are “following us” before we do anything wrong.
  • Eddy: We must teach what is right- sound doctrine. These days people are moving away from this (vs1-2). If you let God use you, everything will be ok. We should rebuke people that are doing wrong. God can use anyone regardless of age, even the despised ones.
  • Justine: God will fulfill all His promises because He is not a man that He can deceive. We should do the work of God for His glorification.

We concluded the session with a song from Justine and a prayer from Eddy. (Written by Kellen Niyomukiza)

Bible Quiz: We had a wonderful quiz day on 23rd July. We had two groups Team Hope (Immy, Pamela and William) and the second Team Glory (Pius, eddy and Justine). We changed our format this time and the youth gained points on objectives, opening and reading the bible, memory verses, and book & chapter finding. Team Glory won with 12 marks while Team Hope got 11 marks. After our activities these each youth gave us their memory verses. Here are a few of their verses:

  • PIUS-Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
  • EDDY-Hebrews 4:13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
  • JUSTINE-Philippians 1:21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.

Movie Day: We ended the month’s programs on the 30th watching the first 3 Episodes of Season 1 of The Chosen. E01- I Have Called You By Name, E02- Shabbat, E03- Jesus Loves the Little Children. The youth said it was good to see how the people of Jesus’ time lived, and it helped them to understand Mary, Matthew, Peter, and even Jesus more. Each episode revealed its own life lessons to us. Here are a few of the lessons learned:

William (Episoide 1)-Sometimes we don’t have to fight battles for ourselves. We should put our problems to God to fight for us, just as Mary did and Peter’s wife did.

Precious (Episode 3)- Jesus is a good teacher. He taught the little children so much and they believed because they accepted Him easily. (Episode 2)- The man at Shabbat said even good things can come from Nazareth. So we should not despise where we come from.

Milly (Episode 1)- Jesus came to heal the sick and look for the unrighteous but not those that are well, like Mary.

Kellen (Episode 1)- We should have faith unlike Nicodemus who run away when the demons told him that he cannot manage them. When you meet Christ, you receive Joy and happiness for example Mary turned into a smiling Mary after she met Jesus.

Justine (Episode 1 & 2)- We should go as per God’s not in our own strength, like Peter was. Our God is a God of victory. We should always ask for Gods wisdom to know what is true and when.

Pamela (Episode 1 & 2)- Jesus did not come for perfect people. He came to look for sinners to perfect them. Mary was given hope, life and Joy. We should thank God because of the Salvation that He gave us.

BELA BULUNGI (GOOD-BYE):

Thank you to all of you that that continue to stand with us in prayer. Also a BIG Thank You to our monthly donors! Without you none of this could happen. May God continue to bless and keep you all! Have a blessed August!
