Prayers Answered-Disabled Latrine
Yesterday, 05 Sept, on behalf of FHLM & KHOP, Rogers and I meet with Madam Harriett Katenda, the Head Mistress of Kitengessa Church of Uganda Primary school. We all meet to discuss the construction of a handicap latrine build on the school grounds. This build was to take place while the Kingdom House of Prayer (KHOP) missionary team was in Masaka, but their program became too fixed, so the immediate build was dropped. But the KHOP directors stayed true to their word and left funds for build. This handicap latrine is specifically for Rachel Nabakyondwa, a 14 year old disabled girl that attends the school, and any other handicap students that may attend the primary school.
I came to know of Rachel and her situation a year and half ago. Until now her situation has burdened my heart and she has been in my prayers. Since Rachel is disabled and confined to a wheelchair she has to wear a diaper every day, because the school does not have a bathroom that she can access in her wheelchair. Each day, she deprives yourself of fluids in order to keep the smell of your waste from filling the classroom. But the smell persists and everyone is aware. All of her teachers tell her and us that she is incredibly bright, but she cannot perform to her full potential because she is constantly in discomfort and constantly trying to erase herself from the judgmental thoughts of the other students. Now thanks to KHOP & FHLM things are going to be changed for Rachel.
As you can imagine Rachel was very excited when we told her that we were going to start the building of the latrine. Her excitement is very evident from the BIG smile she has in the attached pictures.
After meeting with Rachel and her class mates we were able to inspect the future build site. Further discussion was then had with Madam Harriett and it was decided that building would start on Monday, 10 Sept. I will keep you all posted as to the progress of the build.
