Never a Dull Moment
Well as of Saturday evening, 05 Feb, I’m back in Masaka, Uganda! It is so good to be home and with the boys again. But with that there is never a dull moment!
An example of that is today. Lauren and I were having a reunion lunch with our friend and director of a collaborative NGO, Liz, and I get a phone call from Rock. Rock proceeds to explain that he is at the hospital and then his airtime runs out. Of course, I franticly ring him back. He explains, calmly, that he was on his bicycle driving over to Saza, where his friend lives, and a lorry (truck) knocked his bicycle. He then was thrown off the bike and onto the gravel and dirt road. He said he was at hospital in the Emergency Room and the nurses were taking care of him. Thank God he had no concussion or broken bones, just big scraps all over his body.
When Lauren and I reached the hospital Rock was seated outside on the grass waiting for us. Sure enough he had a scrap down the entire length of his left forearm, scraps all over his chest, stomach, right knee, hands and a huge scrap on his left knee. The nurses had already cleaned and dressed his wounds and given him 2 shots (antibiotic & pain). As we walked back into the Emergency Room to get his paper work his knee wound started bleeding through the bandage. I asked the nurse if he needed stitches and she assured me no. We were instructed to go to another building to get his tetanus shot. As we walked there the knee wouldn’t stop bleeding. I had the nurses put more dressing on the wound.
By the time we all got to my house the knee wound had bleed through the dressing. We removed the dressing to find that, yes, indeed he should have had at least 3 to 4 stitches, but it was too late then. We put ice packs on the swollen knee and dabbed the dripping blood. Finally the wound stopped bleed and Rock began to rest a bit.
I’m just so thankful to God that Rock wasn’t hurt worse and despite everything he was still smiling! By the way, his bicycle came out with only a few scraps on it too! See there is never a dull moment around here.
