FHLM FEBRUARY 2023 NEWSLETTER
GREETINGS:
Greetings from Masaka! I hope February, the month of love has been blessed for you! My favorite verse: 1 Corinthians 13:13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three, but the greatest of these is love.
DIRECTORS UPDATE:
Social Worker: I thank everyone that prayed for our wisdom as we searched and interviewed for a new social worker. On Feb 14th and 15th Charles and I conducted interviews of several candidates. After much deliberation over three very qualified candidates, we, along with Pastor Brian decided to hire Shakirah Nabasumba. Shakirah has a diploma in Social Work and comes to FHLM with several years of experience. Please join me in welcoming her to the FHLM Family!
New Youth: Please welcome Ruth Nakanwagi to the FHLM SOAR Youth Sponsorship Program! Ruth is 18 years old and this new school year started Secondary 3 (freshman in High School). We found out about Ruth’s situation through a teacher at school. She is a lovely and courageous young lady that has already been through many obstacles in life. She is a bright student, but due to family issues and lack of fees her time in school and grades have suffered. She has been placed by the local council man with her maternal aunt to live and be raised by her. She has four siblings each from different fathers and they have also been separated from the mother. Ruth fellowships at Full Gospel- Katwe/Masaka. We are thankful to be able to give her a new start in life and in her education. If you are led by the Lord to support Ruth or have more questions about her please contact me at reetsindiego@yahoo.com. Thank you!
YOUTH UPDATE:
Back to School: On 06 February the secondary youth; Eddy, William, Milly, Charity, Pius, Ruth, and Pamela started 1st Term of the 2023 school year. After such a long holiday break they were all anxious to start school again. Now that they are back in school we only have youth programs on Wednesdays for Bible Study and on Saturday afternoons.
Immy: She was not amongst the starters because we were waiting on her UNCE Secondary 4 National Exam results. She received her results on 9th Feb. We praise God for helping her to achieve a 2nd Grade. Come March 6th she will be joining Advanced Level at Masaka SS taking Literature, Divinity, and Economics. We pray the best for her in Advanced Levels!
Justine: Is still waiting for her UCE Secondary 6 National Exam results. Till then she is still working 7 days a week at Bakibule Traders, Masaka Town. We are praying for favorable exam results.
Pamela’s Birthday was on 28th Feb but since she was in school that day we waited till we were all together at the Centre for Bible Study on March 1st. We celebrated her life with balloons, cake and singing several versions of Happy Birthday!
YOUTH PROGRAMS:
Freedom In Christ: From 30th Jan to 2nd Feb I taught Sessions 1-3 of the Freedom in Christ discipleship course. Here is a brief overview of what we passed through.
- Day 1 Who Was I?: I taught them that God loves us and He originally designed us for His purpose. When Adam & Eve ate the fruit they died spiritually and everything changed. They were still physically alive, but spiritually cut off from God! That is why we still have a deep need to be significant, secure and accepted by God. 1 John 5:12 He who has the Son has life and he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
- Day 2: Who Am I Now?: I began with the question; Are you a Saint or a Sinner? We discussed how it is easy to change on the outside, but hard to change on the inside. We talked about the transformation of a caterpillar to a butterfly and how when we become believers in Christ we are totally changed—from the inside—out. We ended with this declaration. We are now SAINTS, CHILDERN OF GOD, we have inherited GOD’S NATURE, we are PHYSICALLY ALIVE & SPIRITUALLY ALIVE, and we are a CHANGED PERSON! 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, old things have passed away, behold, all things have become new.
- Day 3: Choosing to Believe: I opened with a True or False game and talked about what we think is true or false in life. Then I shared about the faith we have every day in simple things and the things we take for granted. We then discussed about what faith is. We talked about our foundation of Faith and if it built on truth and the solid Rock or on false truths or lies. We ended with knowing that God is our solid Rock; He can be trusted, we can put our faith in Him! Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
Fun Day Out: On 3rd Feb we took the youth to Lake Nabugabo for a day out before the new year of school started! We were with all of our secondary youth and we also invited Ruth and Precious to join us. The day started out a bit cloudy, but that didn’t stop the youth from swimming up until lunch time. After lunch many of them played volleyball, football or ludo (board game). Ruth, Pamela, and Precious couldn’t get enough of swimming. We all had an amazing day! We are thankful to God for the provision to enjoy our beautiful country and spend a relaxing time together as a family.
Off-Site Training: On 11th Feb most of the secondary youth, Charles and I attended a training at Willow Resource Centre. It was led by Dr. Roy Brown from Israel. Doctor Roy taught us about the Passover in the Old & New Testament and Archeology in the Bible. This was a fascinating day and we learned much as he brought the Bible to life with pictures and vivid discretions of the word of God.
Movie Day: On 18 Feb we watched On Angel’s Wings. This is a sweet movie about a girl, McKenzie, which is met by her guardian angel, Michael, who grants her 3 wishes. Out of the “wishes” both McKenzie and her brother, Josh, find miracles. Luke 4:18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind. To set a liberty those who are oppressed.”—Jesus.
This movie taught us that everyone could use a little miracle and also these lessons:
- Charles-Pastor was preaching about miracles. What is a miracle? We think it’s something that is big but small things we do can be miracles and blessings to others. The small becomes big so we have to try and believe in miracles and pray for them.
- William-There is a difference between winning and trying. All of us want to win but many don’t try. In life and at school we have to practice because practice makes perfect. And deep down everyone has potential but it takes faith to bring it out. You have to believe in yourself and stop doubting yourself.
- Ruth- Ahmia, McKenzie’s team mate, was a mean girl, but we have to remember we are all on the same team. Many times we in fight to win, but we need unity not quarreling so the church is strengthened.
- Milly-Where do we put our hope? If we put our trust in God we’re always on the winning side. Like Josh, he couldn’t read, and he prayed for a miracle and it happened.
- Precious-If we have faith it will bring courage and love. Coach said have faith in yourself. Faith and belief in prayer is asking God to meet other’s needs.
Bible Study: This month we finished the book of James and jumped into the book of 1 Peter. On 22nd Charles did the introduction to who Peter was and why he wrote this epistle. He then read 1 Peter 1:1-25. As he and the youth were moved by the Holy Spirit they shared these insights:
- Ruth. Shared on inheritance that can never perish or fade in verse 4. She said, as Christians we should focus on eternity not earthly inheritance. We should work for eternal life.
- Eddy. Shared on Trials in verse 6 and 7. He said, as Christians we go through trials and challenges but we should stand strong because the Lord we serve is everything. He fights our battle therefore we should not fight on our own but we dedicate everything to him and also allowing him to use us.
- Pamela. Shared on Love in verse 8. She said, we should Love one another. She added it is one of the greatest commandment loving your neighbor as you love yourself. That you cannot say you love God whom you have never seen and fail to love a person close to you.
- Pius. Shared on evil desires in verse 14. He said once you become a born again, you have to forget all about what you used to do when you were still in the world. That you left the darkness and came to light so as a Christian you should move in light.
- Milly. Shared on being Holy in verse 15. She said, our body is the temple of God so we should be holy when we want God to seat in us or use us.
- Charity. Shared on Hope in verse 13. She said, we should have our Hope in the Lord not anyone else. Human being can disappoint but God can not disappoint.
- William. Shared on being imperishable in verse 23. He said, as Christians, we should not admire worldly things or riches because they are perishable cannot last for long. We should wait upon the Lord patiently and he will reward us or grant us everything that we ask of Him.
BELA BULUNGI (GOOD-BYE):
