FHLM MARCH 2022 NEWSLETTER

GREETINGS:

Greetings from Masaka! We praise God for you all! The seasonal rains started about mid-March. Charles says it is our winter! J

DIRECTORS UPDATE:

Social Worker: Over the course of month Charles and I went about the task of accepting Social Worker applications and reviewing those that would be the best candidates to interview for the position. We had interviews from the 21st to 23rd. We are pleased to announce that after all the interviews we have been directed by God to hire Kellen Niyomukiza as our new Social Worker. We are thankful for all of those that joined us in prayer for God’s wisdom and discernment. We continue to pray for Kellen, as she settles into her new role, for her to be guided by God and to be Godly influence for the youth.

Dual Citizenship: I have started the process of compiling the information and letters for my Dual Citizenship. On the 11th, while I was in Kampala, I was able to start my Interpol certificate process and then picked it up on the 18th. I have a few more letters to get, but I hope to apply by the first week of April.

Centre: I have also been dealing with our current land ladies (siblings) and their family wrangles. This is affecting the rental of our current building! The children of the family have also said that they will NOT sell the ministry the land that we are currently renting. That said we ask you to please pray for our land ladies. We also ask for you to continue to pray for land within Masaka City for the ministry and for God to avail the funds to purchase the land. Thank you!

Office Manager: Charles has already become a blessing to the ministry! We have put a lot of new accounting procedures into practice. He is also good with the youth and very easy going.

Networking: On 25th March Charles and I attended the Scripture Union (S.U.) Project Directors Network Conference at Williow Resource Centre.  S.U. brought together at least 15 Christian organizations within the greater Masaka area. We were able to share our organization’s visions and what our focus is on. This meeting has given us the ability to create a platform for us to network and partner with fellow organizations.  We are thankful to S.U. for gathering us together! We are looking forward to teaming together.

SOAR YOUTH UPDATE:

SOAR Youth: The secondary youth have of few weeks of school till 1st Term ends. All eight of them, Justine, Eddy, Immy, William, Milly, Hanisha, Pius and Pamela, are thriving in their studies and spiritual lives. The Secondary 1 & 2 Students, Pamela & Pius, are under the new government curriculum, which is much like a western school curriculum. They have tests weekly and a lot of library research to do. That said they don’t have end of term exams like the Secondary 6 to Secondary 3 students who start their end of term exams in April. Also Milly has joined Scouts and volleyball at school. We are very encouraged by her enthusiasm for these extracurricular activities.

As for the older youth, Oliver is in her 2nd semester already. When I was in the Kampala the weekend of the 11th I was able to meet up with Oliver, Babirye, and David for brunch and we hung out for a few hours. It was so wonderful to see them all!! They all hope to come back for Easter in April.  Oliver got serious malaria after our visit, but we praise God for the provision to treat her. She is much better now. Babirye is enjoying teaching the Secondary 1 & 2 students at Mukono Parents SS. The school has even set her up in the teacher’s hostel accommodations. This is a blessing for her, so she doesn’t have to spend money daily on transport to and from her Mom’s rental in Northern Kampala.

Joshua and I message and talk weekly and he is doing well. He ending his 3rd year 1st semester at the end of April. After the semester ends he thinks he will have a long break from lectures, but he will be doing hospital internship before his final semester.

Youth Centre: Now that so many of the COVID restrictions have been lifted, some of the community youth have started returning to the Centre. They are attending programs Saturday Programs and using the Centre as a “drop in” to read and relax. Charity, Janeffer, and Precious have been coming weekly. On one of Charity’s visits, she, for the 1st time in her life put a puzzle together. It is a blessing to be able to provide a safe, friendly, accessible environment for the youth of FHLM and Masaka to gather.

Bible Study: We are continuing with our Weekly Wednesday evening Bible Studies. This month we completed the Book of 2 Thessalonians. Here are some highlights 2 Thessalonians 2:1-17.

  • Hanisha: Verses 3-4 say, the day of the Lord will not come until there is mass rebellion, but we as believers need to be prepared! Verse 11 one person can make or take you to hell but on the other hand one person can help you be saved. So stand fast, stick to the truth and walk in the Lord’s light and not be taken up.
  • Eddy: verses 13-17 How do we stand fast and firm in the Word? Be patient, endure things and don’t let the devil use our desires and needs to bring temptation to us.
  • Pamela: Gave a supplement on Eddy’s comments. Many will come falsely, using the Word, but we have to know the Word. Even the devil can perform miracles and deceive using the world of lies. We need to be observant of satan and peoples he’s using to lie to us.

Bible Quiz Day: On the 5th we enjoyed a day of friendly competition and learning the Bible. Again we had two teams, Glorious & Gideon. Since this program is Hanisha’s favorite she was our “Quiz Host” for the day! The teams were neck to neck until the “Speed Round” of finding verses in the Bible. That is when Team Gideon pulled ahead to win the day. It was defiantly a day where the Joy of the Lord was felt!

Off-Site Bible Study: Dr. Roy Brown from Israel was back in Masaka teaching at Willow Resource Centre. On Saturday, the 12th our youth and Charles attended his Bible teaching on the book of Genesis. Dr. Roy first went through the linage in the book of Genesis from Abraham to the 12 Tribes of Israel. Then he went into the verses in Genesis related to these people and described their background, lives, and families. For example “The Life of Joseph” in Genesis Chapters 37-50. He gave visual examples of the locations in Genesis from his own videos and pictures. This opened up the youth’s minds and gave them all a new understanding of the book of Genesis.

Movie Day: On the 19th we were all touched by the movie, The Girl Who Believed in Miracles. This is a fictional story about a young girl, Sarah, who had a different kind of faith. After she heard her pastor preach about the Parable of the mustard seed Mark 4:30-32, she realized that her faithful prayers could heal. This is what the youth learned and their comments about this amazing film:

  • Pius- Always have faith and trust in God. Everything is possible with God
  • Precious- There is power in prayer. Sarah had Love for others because when the dog was knocked, she moved towards the dog and prayed to God for the healing. Then the dog was healed.
  • Pamela- Pray in faith like Sarah, for she had a lot of faith
  • Charity- Believing in God she, Sarah, healed
  • Hanisha Faith- Praying for God’s strength is important
  • Milly- We need to live by faith not by sight
  • William- God can use anyone to show His will to other people, for we are equal in the eyes of the Lord
  • Eddy- How do you see God? We have to remember our God is powerful and great

Worship Day: We ended our month’s programs on the 26th with a POWERFUL Worship Day! We had some rousing praise led by Precious with accompaniment by our “band”; William on keyboard, and Pius and Eddy on drums. After some beautiful worship songs from Hanisha Faith, Pius gave us a word for the day. His topic was “Those That Seek God Diligently Find Him”. He gave several scripture references, but his main focus was on the lives of Daniel (Daniel 6:1-25) and Job (Job 2:1-13). He encouraged us to never back out of a challenge, to face it with God, pray, and we will win!  We ended with more worship songs led by Justine, who also guided us through prayer topics. I ended this amazing, spirit filled day with a closing prayer.

BELA BULUNGI (GOOD-BYE):

As you can see it has been another busy and fruitful month here at FHLM and in Masaka! We thank you all for your continued prayers, support, love and encouragement! As Paul wrote, may the Lord bless you and keep you. May His light shine upon you and be gracious unto you.

Have a wonderful day and month!

Love and blessings,

Rita
