Director’s Update:
Greetings everyone from Masaka! Well I flew back into Uganda on 18th Nov and was delighted to be greeted at the airport by Rogers and David. It was wonderful to be back on Ugandan soil and to hug my husband!
Well I’m getting a little ahead of myself, because I want to share with you about the last few weeks of my U.S. Furlough. I spent the 1st week of November still in Colorado; I remained a few days with my brother and family and then traveled up to the Boulder area with my Aunt and Cousins. It was a great last week with biological family!!
On the 7th I was off to San Diego and that week was a whirlwind! I was so blessed to stay with two special people, Lee and Michael O’Day, who have become family to me! During my time in SD I went to Maranatha Chapel for a meeting. This meeting was special because it was the 1st time I met Melissa Neuwirth, FHLM’s Impact Prayer team coordinator. I also got many words of wisdom and encouragement from Lynne Cook, our Mission Pastor’s wife. On Friday I met up with two of my dear SD friends, Liesa and Kari for a proper catch up and a “ladies that lunch” afternoon! That night all the members of the Impact Prayer team had a special dinner and surprise Birthday Party for me! I thank God for these exceptional women of God!! Lee made sure that I had some FUN filled days enjoying San Diego’s sights, sun, surf with an afternoon in Del Mar and a day out in Coronado! Wow San Diego! Sunday was filled with an Information Table and Meet & Greet Luncheon after the services at Maranatha Chapel. I want to thank Melissa, Linda, Aivi and our Impact Team for ALL their help and coordination for the day—you ladies are a BIG blessing! This was a wonderful way to wrap up my U.S. Furlough.
Big News: Jane Franc is now the beautiful bride of Febian Kagulu! They were covenanted to each other on 18th Nov at Masaka Pentecostal Church. All of our youth were in attendance and Pastor Sam represented FHLM and accepted our gift cake form Jane and Febian. Everyone said the wedding was wonderful and that Jane was like an angel in her gown. BIG CONGRATS goes out to them! May they have a life time of love, joy and a God filled marriage! “He who finds a wife, finds favor from God” Proverbs 18:22
1st Week Back to UG: When I got back to Uganda I spent a few days recovering from jet-lag, spending time with Rogers, and getting the house back in order. When I was just getting back in the Uganda groove—much different than the last 6 weeks of life—I was headed to town when I took a fall. Though I thought it was just a bad sprain, the pain continued to get worse, so the next day I had my foot x-rayed. It turns out that a bone in my foot was broken, so I am now in a cast and hobbling around the house on crutches for the next 6 weeks. In all things God has a plan and a purpose, so I submit to Him, for He is good!
Youthz News:
During the month of November our Youthz Programs were limited with me still being on furlough and Jane being on leave for her cultural introduction and wedding. But thanks to Aunt Liz and Alpha some programs continued!
Aunt Liz went into the office/center a few days a week in the afternoon and met up with the youth after school to make sure they were well and if they needed anything. She was also a big blessing as “keeper” of the ministry funds.
Alpha kept our Tuesday and Thursday After-School Bible Studies going with the youth. With his passion for the Word, he led the youth through studies in Judges and John. He also challenged them to re-read the verses studied each week, put the things learnt into practice and pray for each other. I want to give Liz and Alpha a GIANT THANK YOU for all their assistance and their on-going commitment to the ministry.
The SOAR Secondary Youth’s were in 3rd Term Exams during the week of the 20th. We pray that Eddy, Oliver, Justine, and Joshua did well on their exams. Babirye is still to complete the last three of her Uganda National Exams for Secondary 6, so please keep her in prayer for excellent results! Thanks!
William completed his final UBITEB Exams on 15th Nov and is now finished with his Advanced Certificate in Electrical Installation. We pray that when he receives his results in March that they will be exceptional!
Joseph completed is final UBETEB Exams on 24th Nov and has now completed his studies for a Certificate in
As you can see it has been an amazing and blessed month for all of us! I thank all of those that made these blessings possible!!! In return, may the Lord richly bless you! Please keep the following in prayer:
- Preparation, practices, performers, pastors and finances for J.A.M. Fest that will be held on 16th
- Prayers for our upcoming discipleship course; The Grace Course. For the Youth to participate, take to heart and live out the truths of the course.
- For speedy healing for the broken bone in my foot
Have a wonderful day and may God bless you and keep you all!
Love,
Rita
