Greetings from Masaka!

1 Peter 4:1-2 Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,  that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.

DIRECTOR’S UPDATE

Well our big news for July is that Rogers and I have been working on his application and ALL the paperwork for his U.S. visa!! He has applied and we are praying for the Lord to work in the hearts of the U.S. embassy immigration counselors to give him clearance for the visa. Thank you in advance for your prayers! And we hope to see most of you in Oct or Nov.

Well this is what happened and what we at FHLM were up to in July……

YOUTHZ NEWS

In MemDSC05773ory of Derik: 4th of July was a sad day here at the youth center, as we found out that one of the young boys that comes for programs had passed away. In Derik’s short 13 years of life he had lived on & off the street. Unfortunately the 3 months before he passed he had spent on the street and his sickness had gotten worse because of this. He was much loved and many of us at the center had talked to him and counseled him about going back to his aunts’ house, but to no avail. We are all deeply saddened by the loss, but he loved singing and praising God, so I know that there is one more choir member in heaven! RIP dear Derik.

DSC07092Eddy Update: Eddy got into a bicycle accident on 23 July and was admitted to the regional hospital. He received many cuts on his forehead, nose and face. He also had to have stitches in his tongue—where his teeth bit through, on the chin and by his right eye. Since he had lost a lot of blood they put him on 3 drips with medicine. He was released from the hospital the next day, but missed school for a week. But we thank God that He preserved his life and that he is healing fast!

SOAR Youthz Counseling: Throughout the month Jane and I continued to have counseling sessions with each of our youth. As an organization we see the need for our youth to be nurtured physically, spiritually and emotionally, so these talks allow the youth to open up and share their concerns, needs, and life with us. As we are led by the Lord we guide them and help them through life’s situations.

Masaka SS Visitation Day: On 08 July all of the SOAR Youth, minus Cephas, went to the school for 2nd Term VD. Unfortunately Babirye was also unable to attend the day becauseDSC07062 she was sick.  It was a fun day walking around the school seeing where Oliver, Eddy, Babirye and Joshua have their classes. Each student along with Jane and I meet with their class teachers and reviewed their beginning of term exam reports. Most of them did ok, but Eddy had an exceptional report—being 8th in all of S1 class of 345 students.  After visiting the teachers we all walked to a restaurant and had local food of rice, matooke, yams, sweet potato, and posho accompanied by a sauce of beans, peas, or meat. It was a very nice time together!

?Hospital Outreach: On 15th July Alpha, Jane and I visited the Children’s Ward at Masaka Referral Hospital and shared the hope of Jesus with the little ones and their families.

Movie with a Message: This month on the 22nd we watched the movie, Radio. I love how God works, because normally the Jr. Fellowship of young boys that live on the street meet during our movie times, but this month they didn’t have a meeting and most of them joined our movie. Since the movie is about loving and caring for others that are different, it was so fitting to have those young boys with us.

That said the movie really touched the youth! Many said that they learned that it is so important to treat those that may be different then us with love and care. Babz said, even if people are different then us God still created us all in His image, so like the Bible says, we are to “love you neighbor as yourself”.  James said that we can learn so much from others if we just open our hearts and accept them, they can teach us more then we think we can teach them. Moses said that we are to treat others like Jesus did, He accepted and associated with all kinds of people and loved them all! Moses quoted this verse in Matthew 25:40 “And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’ “

J.A.M. Session 29 July: This months’ Jesus And Me was like “old school” JAMs! MC Sebo and MC Mukyala a.k.a Joshua & Rita kicked off the day with a little dancing session. Then MC Sebo got us all laughing tell our faces hurt with his own brand of comedy. The afternoon was mixed with singing, spoken word, and stories. Regan shared from the Word of God in Jonah 1:1-5 and told us not to run away when God wants us to share the gospel with people. Sharmeria & Alpha told us that we are ALL gifted & talented in some way so use it for God and show others God in you!

James, a.k.a. Raj, shared the most inspirational word of the day. He drew a dot in the middle of a lined piece of paper and asked each of us, “What do you see?” Most saw only a dot, the smallest thing on the paper. He said, “We fail to see that the world is larger than that DOT with many opportunities! We mostly focus on the DOT—our problems—the smallest thing and look at the negative instead of the positives in our lives.” He encouraged us all to use our opportunities and look at our positives in life!

After Babirye sang such a beautiful song about God’s Love for us! She said “I’m nothing without the love of Jesus!” Than Cephas shared some of his poems and Moses closed the day for us with a worship song and prayer. What an AWESOME day with Jesus!!

End of Term 2: The Masaka Secondary youth; Eddy, Oliver, Joshua and Babirye, started their end of term exams on 31st and are to finish up on 16th Aug. At Mubye AgriculturDSC07094al College, Joseph started his exams on the 24th and finished up on the 28th.  Then on the 29th we had surprise visit from him! He got a ride into Masaka with a teacher, so he could talk to me about his upcoming Industrial Training in Kabanyolo. It was so good to see him, as we haven’t seen him since May!

Please pray for continued health, safety, and provision of our Lord for our FHLM family and board, the youth that come to the center, our supporters, donors, and the country of Uganda. Thank you and may the Lord continue to bless you and keep you all!

In His Grip,

Rita-Director Faith Hope Love Missions
